A quick update:

I am now in possession of my PD! Talk about an anti-climax. Just a slip of paper with my details on it. However, I am happy all it's all done and dusted. Just need to get my ID card now. Just out of interest, la fecha de emision was 12/10/11 and the resolucion date was 21/09/10. So basically it was authorised over 7 weeks ago.

PS: The extranjeria.gov.cl site still shows my application as "en tramite". Go figure.

Regards and good luck!

Quick update for others waiting for permanencia definitiva. Went to Extranjeria this week to extend my En tramite papers for another 3 months. I was informed that my solicitud had been approved and was just awaiting signatures, official approval and stamps which means I should get it within a month. I am not celebrating yet, but hopefully soon...
Timeline:
Application mailed end of April 2011
Received 9/5
Entered into system 23/6
Missing document (my fault) received 1/8

To share my experience with permanencia definitiva, I applied 09/11/2011 and the extranjeria website says it's approved and ready to pick up. It gives the date as 20/01/2012, although it only came up today on the website.
So that took a little over 2 months to be approved and 4 months to be communicated.
Seems quite fast from what I've read, especially considering that it's summer time. I don't know if it's an exceptional case, I emit boletas to a government body, but no idea if that would have favoured my application for fast processing.

Good question, I forgot to include that piece of information.
It was a VISA TEMPORARIA PARA PROFESIONALES, the type of permanencia definitiva application I sent was for RESIDENTE CON VISA TEMPORARIA COMO INVERSIONISTA, HONORARIO O RENTISTA.

Got my PD today. Yesterday I checked the website and it said that visa was ready to be picked up at San Antonio. To bring only passport or ID.
According to autoconsulta... it was issued 30/1/12. However, when I showed up this morning the clerk told me that it hadn't arrived yet and he didn't care about what it says on their own website. After a somewhat heated exchange, I got to speak to a supervisor, who checked and realised that I was right. He called upstairs and somebody popped down with the signed paper within 5 minutes.
He did mention to somebody on the phone that it had happened several times and that they had to correct it. (the fact that the website advises people to show up before the PD's are physically ready and that the website has to remind people to bring the papers received from extranjeria).
Makes you think - probably the permits are stuck a few floors away in the same building, waiting for god knows what for 6-7 weeks.
For others in the same situation - do not take the clerk's denial for an answer, but insist.

Total time just over 10 months, however, I lost about 2 months due to a mistake on my part.

jaja, I also went today to San Antonio 580 to pick up my approved PD as instructed on the website a couple of days ago.

I took the clerks denial for an answer when he told me it wasn't actually ready yet and that I'd be advised by post when it was.

I'll have to go back and insist. Thanks for the info.
