IMO, unless your husband is in a very high level or at least very technically specialised job he would need to arrive with spanish sufficient to be able to work in the mining industry, as it is a totally spanish speaking environment even with the foreign companies, given what your hubbies qualifications are. So in order to work in the mining industry here, you have a few choices -
1. stay in SAfrica a little longer but concentrate on working up into a high level position and on getting a passable level of spanish;
2. Come to chile on a medium term basis (6months minimum) and immerse yourselves in the language, including the technical language he would need for his job, then start applying.
3. Move here permanently and roll the dice.

While there may be a small percentage of people working here in the mining industry that use english as their first language, the vast majority of those can work in spanish and do so on a day to day basis, while official work documents sent back to the international base are handled in english, day to day work is in spanish.

Download and install google chrome as your browser. It has options where it automatically converts web pages to the language of your choice. It's not always perfect but works well if you need basic interpretation.

We really want to start learning Spanish. The problem is that we live in the countryside. Here are no tutors. I am looking currently on the internet for study material to study ourselves at home. Because Chilean Spanish is little bit different in pronunciation, I am not sure which course will be the best. Any ideas would be welcomed and appreciated.

I will give Google Chrome a try. Usually I try to copy / paste to Google Translate, but it is not always very successful.

Don't worry about Chilean spanish, just regular spanish will do.

This is probably asking you to dive in the deep end of the pool, but watching TV is a good way to get used to Chilean Spanish music and expressions. One show I started watching recently that offers online archives (hopefully they won't block you in SA) is Tolerancia Cero. The other benefit is that it will introduce you to Chile's hot issues of the day, as well as many of its political and media figures:

It's a reasonably serious show and it beats watching reality TV if you ask me. The online archives skips ads and gives you large chunks of current affairs content to listen to.

For me it was already difficult to manage things here and I didn't arrive with 2 kits and I have a chilean gf.
You have to prepare everything realy well before you move, when I spend a bit of time in South Africa I thought
it wasn't an easy place to live, but Chile is deffinately worse, beleave me.

I was thinking the same thing. I am not South African but spent a number of years living there. Moving to Chile may be a disappointment for you. I would suggest moving to Canada (they accept anyone in Canada). Lots of well paying jobs for your husband too!
