Does anyone have any experience using Netflix streaming movies, Hulu or even Lala from Chile? If I am not mistaken, these can only be accessed from within the US. I assume this is all IP address based. Maybe someone has some thoughts on how to beat the system?

Ill give you some hints... google the word movies, and the word online and the word subtitle in spanish on google.cl... or ask a chilean... they will point you in the direction of online streaming sites in chile that work very very very very good!

It used to be possible to route around Hulu's IP filtering by using a US proxy, but I don't think it works anymore. Maybe through a VPN. I just download instead of streaming. There's no way a HD mkv TV rip (or equivalent in terms of resolution/quality) is going to stream stutter-free through a Chilean ISP anyway (unless maybe you're one of the lucky few with FTTH in Santiago), not to speak of 8-12GB Blue Ray movie rips.

I have been in Chile for about 7 weeks now. The only thing I miss more than NY Bagels is my Netflix subscription...
Hulu and fancast do not work from Chile, I tried a free proxy software package that worked sometimes, but it made my internet connection very unreliable so I gave up on it.
I have just now ordered a slingbox and I hope it works well, I have heard good things about (on this site too) and from what I understand it is virtually the same as if you were watching TV back in the US....

P.S.: I will not miss the stupid subtitles that they have on American shows here...

Well I tried this trick but I believe the instructions are for XP and I have Windows 7 and could not successfully convert the instructions... too bad... because like some of the others, I miss services like Netflix and Hulu...

speaking of Netflix, it's a great program... after using Netflix, couldn't imagine going to a Blockbuster again... well until now!

Please let us know how the Slingbox works out and what you had to do get it to work... for example, did you have to set it up in the USA before using it here?

Does someone on this forum have slingbox set up already and is willing to make a deal to let me access it? If someone already has one, I can give something of value in return for access. For exampIe, next week I travel to the US and I could bring things back for you. Or I can pay you money.

I want to watch NFL football, it's masochistic because my team is the Detroit Lions (0-16 and 1- 15 the past 2 years) but a fan is a fan is a fan. Go Lions! Beat the Bears tomorrow!

for NFL fans, there is two other options.

1) NFL.com gamepass - HD over the internet. I have used it the last two years and it is getting better each year
2) California Catina in Santiago advertises NFL and other american sports. (i have never been)

If you really, really need access to these services, you can do so through a VPN, but that will set you back $50+/mo.
