WE HAVE A PLANE / Doctors!!!! We Need Donations for fuel!!

Postby admin » Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:54 pm

THIS THREAD IS FOR GENERAL DISCUSSION ABOUT THE PROJECT.

We are suspending accepting general donations at this time!!! Thank you for all the support.

We have reached our goals, and the sort of aid required now in Chile is more administrative than cash. If you would like to donate to the reconstruction efforts please donate to one of the major aid organizations in Chile that we have worked with during our small project. We are still working on various projects, but they are essentially manpower type projects that do not require funds.

Links to aid agencies we endorse, and we have seen and worked with on the ground around Chile can be found here and would recommend that you donate to:

OFFICIAL NEWS AND UPDATES ARE AT THIS LINK NOW: topic4032.html

We have a plane!!!! We also have 2 American Doctors that live in Chile Volunteering. One doctor is an OB. We have access to a warehouse of donations in Temuco.

We need contributions or sponsors to pay for fuel and possible medical supplies.
THREE DAYS FROM IDEA TO AID!!!

New Photos starting on page 12 of this thread here from Isla Mocha and Los Angels at this link: topic4006-165.html#p40240

We have over 26 flights completed to date.

We now have a U.S. Bank of America account available for transferring money!!! Instructions are below.

ANYONE THAT SENT MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION, PLEASE PM ME YOUR NAME, THE AMOUNT, AND THE CONTROL NUMBER SO WE CAN CLEAR IT OUT OF WESTERN UNION IN TEMUCO, Chile. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYMORE WESTERN UNION WIRES.

[/size]

We have sent the doctors to Isla Mocha for a week today!!! WE ARE Starting a second operation out of LA to the 8th region.

Photos here: topic4006-105.html .

We have an entire AIRFORCE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Temuco flying club has several more airplanes, but no one to help them do the back office coordination with everyone else. We are going to be sending computers, printers, and people to the hanger at the Temuco airport to help them coordinate. They already know where the worst areas are and need logistical support contacting the cities, preparing passenger list, dispatching aid, doctors, and so on. We have pilots now and planes in Los Angeles, Chile. Our pilot is flying there today to start operations.

UPDATE ON PAY PAL PROBLEMS: We have refunded all money to the senders that used Pay Pal. Sorry about the confusion, but we did not anticipate Pay Pal's unpredictable actions and can not afford the delays they will cause to the project.

PAY PAL HAS RETURNED MY ACCOUNT TO NORMAL STATUS, I HAVE ISSUED REFUNDS TO EVERYONE. CHECK YOUR ACCOUNTS. PAY PAL CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO DO THIS, SO WE ARE NOW USING THE BANK OF AMERICA ACCOUNT PROVIDED BELOW.

Here is the plan so far:

We have a plane, doctors, a warehouse in Temuco full of food and other supplies. We will start flights out of Temuco to towns going north up the coast. We will do recon flight until we find a town that needs help, unload doctors and medical supplies, collect the info on what else they need, then start to relay flights from Temuco where we have a warehouse of goods collected by the owners of the route 11 collectivos in Temuco (they pass all the markets and grocery stores in town). We are now starting a second operation in Los Angeles.

We need help to cover cost of fuel, possibly buying medical supplies (we are working on getting these). Our goal is to have this fully operational by Saturday or Sunday.

We have the cooperation of the Mayor University medical school and hospital in Temuco and more doctors and nurses there to work with and help get out in to the field.

Two ways to assist this project:

We are suspending accepting general donations at this time!!! Thank you for all the support.

If you don't know who we are or do not feel comfortable trusting us to execute this, please DO NOT SEND US MONEY. There is a list of well known charities here and how to donate to them that would be better for you: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3971

We are a rag tag band of volunteers just trying to do something good, and we need a little help to get off the ground.

We are a group of private individuals. We are NOT a non-profit organizations!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can make no legal promise other than to tell you this is what we plan to do with the funds and all we can offer is our word and reputation with the community that we will get it done. This is not the first time allchile.net has helped in a disaster in Chile: post25736.html and you just need to read this thread now to see we are already delivering on our promise

Here is what we need to do:

We need $600 per day for flying. That buys us about 6-7 hours of flight time.

We are calculating that we need about $4,000 to fly for a week at this point. In the morning, we will have more fine details on what everything will cost and what we need. Any excess money that comes in after we stop this project, we will donate directly to one of the other three major charities in Chile. We may come up with other targeted projects for specific needs in Chile later, but for now this is something that is a practical need right now and we can do.

Even if just everyone that visits the site commits a dollar or two, it would help a lot.

I am personally offering banner advertising for 1 month for any sponsor that commits to buy 1 day of fuel, and obviously all the PR we can muster across the All Chile Network of sites and I am sure our friend sites like the Santiago Radio and the Pulse would be willing to jump on board with articles and stories. Please PM me if you would like to take me up on this offer.

We want to try and get everyone involved by following along with this thread. You might be on the other side of the Earth, but you can still participate here.

Possible airstrips we have to work with at the link below. We are going to look in to possibility of an emergency waiver for landing on things like roads.

Details:
Our friend Vince Beasley in Puerto Varas is donating his time, airplane, and also some fuel directly for tentatively up to a week and possibly more. Below is his letter describing his plane, abilities, and photos. We have at least one American doctor in Futaleufu (vince is going to pick him up), and possibly two.

My plane is a Cessna 206 equipped as a "Bush Plane" in Alaska, where the plane worked for many years. It has 6 seats and can carry 5 passengers. Five of the seats can be removed to allow cargo inside. There is also an external cargo compartment that can carry up to 300 pounds (136 kg.).

The maximum gross weight of the aircraft is 3600 lbs (1633 kg).
Empty weight is 1700 pounds (771 kg).
The payload is 1900 pounds (862 kg).

In other words, depending on how much fuel there is in the plane (up to 80 gallons or 303 liters), the plane can carry a payload of 1,265 pounds to 1,645 pounds (574 kg to 746 kg), plus the pilot. This depends on the configuration of the aircraft, such as full fuel and all seats installed, or if the extra seats are removed and the plane has a minimum of 26 gallons or 2 hours of fuel.

My aircraft is STOL equipped and I have "Bush Flying" experience. I am able to take off and land on short unimproved air strips. This includes, hard sand beaches, grass fields, dirt roads, asphalt roads and anywhere conditions permit. I am a commercial pilot with a very capable aircraft designed and specially equipped for extraordinary conditions and I would be pleased to offer my services to help those in need.
Sincerely,

Vince Beasley

It looks like we are going to need about $550 US for 6-7 hours of flight time, or a day of flight time. Hopefully we can get more than together, but this is a target start. We are thinking about targeting the towns in the NE section of the 9th region on the coast (this is still being confirmed), and operating out of Temuco.

The owner of the route 11 collectivos in Temuco that pass by all the grocery stores in town have been collecting donations from their customers and people along the route, and then storing them at their warehouse at the end. They are then sending trucks to those towns, but it looks like they will not be able to get a truck together until Saturday, and some of those towns have not been reached with major aid yet.

That's excellent. At this point, towns that haven't received aid could be getting into serious trouble. Temuco seems like a good base to pick off areas without help. Because my employer is offering to match staff donations, I'm planning to channel further contributions that way, but I hope others will send money for fuel ASAP.

I noticed that ONEMI has quite strict guidelines on what medical supplies are acceptable (I think their information said drugs etc. won't be received from individuals), so if people do have spare medical supplies in good condition, this may be the best place to send them.

James.

PS. I don't know how out of contact these places are, but maybe it's worth taking a few 1-page fliers with news from outside to encourage people? It would probably only take a few per town (not much weight) for the word to get around and keep people focused on surviving. Just an idea.

wooo. I hardly got that button up, and we got almost half a day flying already.

When we hatched this project this afternoon, I was just hoping we could get a day worth of fuel and I figured we would work out after that how to get the rest.

Bank info for direct deposits for those inside Chile is coming shortly.

Wow! that is absolutely wonderful.

My teenager is the leader of his high-school band and is getting together a special benefit concert at school for your relief effort. It probably won't be much since it's a bunch of kids but if it helps for fuel I guess it's worth it.

Once again, well done!
