Re: Foreigners without residency, can not leave with Chilean car

So your visa (eg. subject to contract or official) ends and you revert to being a tourist with just 30 days or whatever to leave the country. You need to do a border run to give you some more time to wind up your affairs. How are you supposed to get there??

Re: All telephones imported into Chile must be registered or will not work

Wow. Sounds like there is a good business opportunity for a guy re-selling pre-paid phones in Santiago airport, at least until the monopolists kick him out.

Re: Lost Car Docs

If your car is less than a couple of years old, I wouldn't expect you to have a revision tecnica yet?

Re: finding legal address by RUT

I haven't tried in this general case, but you might be able to look it up at sii.cl (as you can look up self-employed maestros etc.).

Re: Registering my birth at Registro Civil

Oh. Yes, they did say in 2012 that they might stop doing it but hadn't last time I checked. Yes, I've read about these strange spousal visa requirements on the BBC, eg. high earners being kicked out because their British spouse doesn't earn enough and some health insurance thing. Does anybody know i...

Re: Registering my birth at Registro Civil

PS. You could conceivably just pay the main registration fee and then get a cheaper copy of the certificate from the GRO 180 months from now, if you don't need it in a hurry (presumably you know they have registered the birth since they charge you for it and return your documents)...

Re: Registering my birth at Registro Civil

Apparently I need to get translations by an approved translator. The website redirects me to a list of recommended Lawyers. Can anyone recommend one in particular? What is the approximate cost? I vaguely remember seeing that but didn't get anything translated -- just sent in the Chilean birth certi...

Re: Getting a Driver's License

Paper UK licence, no photo, expires around 2040 IIRC ;-). I've actually been using my Chilean one as per the DVLA advice though. Glad I didn't get caught up in this school test nonsense...

Re: Registering my birth at Registro Civil

Although that sounds right, according to the above link he can nevertheless register his birth at the Registro Civil and I would have thought he will get some document akin to a consular birth certificate (as we did from the British Embassy in Santiago in the reverse case)? There must be some sort o...

Re: customs agent for importing container

Reminder. When you list the contents and per item values, do so at USED prices. Used as in yard sale value, distress liquidation sale value. Not purchase price and not sentimental value. But surely the same valuation will then have to be used for the marine insurance, leaving you without enough mon...

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

That was 150 mil for a 3-door cabinet because the original cabinet doors are no longer available and have to be replicated using some special paint job (which is actually almost indistinguishable from the original -- no, I don't think they're having me on...). Was that 150 for the cabinets + instal...
