which "C"...

In Chile, when the old, crazy, and infirm are institutionalized and set out in a wheelchair on the patio to drool all over each other they are referred to as “locos de patio”. This is where we keep our locos de patio on the All Chile Forum.

wethinks an update is <over>due...
we recently faced a dilemma...
:?:

return to western so-am <chile~peru~ecuador>...
or buy a sweet 3/4 acre piece of rural land here and build a small~humble domicile???
<btw - small is beautiful --- less is more>

not to keep any allchileans in suspense...
the concept of a long-sought home won out...
any allchileans may wish a wee perspective here...

3000 sq.m. of land w/many mature trees... <coconut, mango, papaya, cashew, guava, banana...>
fresh seafood + fresh fruit/veggies every day at local markets
nice mountain views, a clean river to swim and paddle just 15 minutes away...
a few unspoiled, undeveloped tropical islands maybe half a day away...

a 20m deep bore well, time-tested and proven...
power easy to hook-up and reliable - 22 cents /kwh <maybe $1/day>
unlimited 3g internet for about 66 cents/day...
most important - 24 beer for $11...!

prices fwiw - fyi --- $5.50 a sq.m. for the land...
best guesstimates for a 60 sq.m. raised house, surrounded by 60 sq.m. covered deck space...
ok, ok, budget for both the land and house - turn key and live - mas o menos $45k...?

salud y suerte to any/all - re turning dreams~concepts to plans~reality...

g~j,

Congratulations on taking this decision to build your 'dream' home in Cambodia. I wish you continued good fortune.

greetings~salutations to all~allchileans = after our many moons of silence...

but 1st, where are all the locos de patio these days...?
it seems many of the original locos have been "disappeared"...?
where have they all gone = please advise...?

g~j are now lurking around allchile again, after a somewhat long hiatus...
the other "C" place has treated us quite well over the ensuing years...
but --- perhaps our old wanderlust is starting to re-manifest...?

perhaps the long~thin place beckons us once again = to wile away some of our remaining daze...?
we always keep our usual plan B "short-list" (for contingencies, of course)...
and chile has come out on top (again) -- when juggling the usual list of compromises which we must negotiate...

we look back to our post from 6 years ago - indicating land prices in our area were ~$6 /sq.m...
segue to a significant real-estate boom of late, here on the south coast...
local property values have been rising exponentially over the last couple years...
even in our quiet farming area outside of town, land values are now up to ~$80 /sq.m....

hmmm...?
might it be prudent and propitious to soon ponder some potential capital gains...?
and thenceforth recommence our plan B (still patiently waiting in the wings)...?
bide-a-wee = only time will tell...?

salud y suerte...

Damn, I missed this post as I never scroll down to this dead part of the forum.

Good to hear from you all. Coincidentally, El P also recently returned.

Pat X hasn't reincarnated in what seems a couple of years, others have physically left, others have dropped out due to boredom or annoyance, others now just lurk, the newer ones have their quirks as you can see and a tiny handful of old timers still participate.

Chile is now a more "colorful" country as you will see if you come back.

A Valpo resident who lurks and occasionally posts. A while back there was a post of his handiwork making bamboo flutes.
