It was a crap run company that I am amazed it hung in there this long.

I have a client that use to manage 5 star hotels in Switzerland. I believe the word he used was "horrifying" to describe the state of their hotel and casinos.

Having lived in las vegas, the number one error they always made in their casinos, is they sound like a mortuary.

Walk in to any vegas casino, and every dollar someone wins sounds like they won a billion. walk in to a Chilean casino, and it is just depressingly dull. That psychological bells and lights rush, is what gets other people gambling. why? because it looks like fun, and everyone wants to have fun. not at Chilean casinos.

I only once went into a casino, the one in Viña del Mar. It was completely silent except for the minor noise made by the various games. The people were all totally silent. There was no music. People were 100% concentrated on whatever game they were playing. It was highly depressing. They all looked addicted, which perhaps they were.

I'm sure the San Antonio operation became a major loser for them after 18-O.

Puerto Varas casino plans shelved, along with other cities they want out of like Pucon . Yeah the Casinos are not as fun here , neither is horse racing. The track atmosphere is seedy and not really a family or young ones day out like in Aus or NZ that's for sure.

Casino operators in Chile article in English ,

Yet another one looking for "support"
Funny all these corporates and free marketers or neo liberals or whatever they thought they were , seem to be first in the line everywhere crying to governments to help them out. Its happening everywhere in the western world, shit even the economist magazine has jumped ship and now promotes state help for private businesses and corporations. Guess they should all remember that next time they critisise welfare programs . Guess the hypocrisy never dies.

There's a reason for that, though: the widespread collapse of the economy is worse than bailing out certain industries. Think 2008: bailing out companies too late made the crisis get much worse than what it could've been.

The way that things are being done is far from perfect, though. There are very few "checks and balances" on most relief programs. There should be more restrictions on what can actually be done with economic support money. I would say that covering payroll and basic upkeep expenses would be enough to avoid a catastrophic collapse.

this really is not all that surprising, but avianca is filing for bankruptcy.

Maybe the Mapuche can import some successfully run casinos from the reservations in the US, get a few tax breaks and make a go of it here!?

I have been joking to my wife for years that the solution to the Mapuche problem is easy. casinos for everyone. Indians get a casino. none-indians get a casino. everyone gets a casino.

I am only half joking about that, having seen how the casinos changed the native American tribes in north America, on balance, they solved a lot of problems (well, at least more than they caused). chief among them, once the indians got economic clout, they got political clout.
