I did Union Civil in 2018 and Registro requested a certificate from my embassy proving I didn't have a married status on the country of my nationality. The reason was, they told me, to prevent bigamy.
it is so much more complicated than that, I would have to charge you just to tell you if you are married legally in chile (e.g. your divorce is recognized, etc).
