Visit Santiago Feb.

Post by Mvp2ny » Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:30 pm

Hi all. Visiting Santiago early Feb. Just wanted to find out local input on areas to visit at night and during the day. Want to avoid any protest areas. How is the Easycab app reliable. Def want to visit areas to eat drink and check out local nightlife. Weekday trip and spanish using Google app., so appreciate any info. Currency or credit cards are safe/easier. Thanks!

Just got back from a week there. It was so so hot every single sweltering day. 31c-36c during. It was hard to spend much time at all but under the care of a capable AC unit. Miserable heat for us as southern chile dwellers.
Make sure you are prepared for the constant heat, can really cut short plans for fun

Uber is better in santiago, I only use cabify for to or from SCL

We stayed in los condes near el golf and had zero sightings of any protests at all for the whole week while we went shopping at costanera a couple times, hit unimarc to pay a couple bills with unired, went to fantasy land (almost melted), the us embassy, etc.

The heat is not that bad in my opinion. It is dry - stick to the shade and it is manageable.
Besides from Plaza Italia, you should be ok in terms of protests.
In terms of nightlife, then February is not a good month. The party is on the coast or down by the lakes in general. Climate at night is very nice though. 26 degrees right now at 10 PM.

depends on perspective. February in Santiago means a large part of the population has left on vacation to get away from the heat. it makes things pleasantly not congested . still, not my first choice to spend February.

Try not to travel intercity from Santiago south on Fridays...really hard to get a last minute bus seat. If staying in city ask for AC or apt/ room facing south. Downtown seemed safe last week, think the vandals are on vacation.
