A fast food or retail company paying $10-$12 per hour cannot hire an executive for less than $250,000 annually. Any fixed number or percentage never works.

Anyone making 3.5 million clp a month can afford a pay cut? I would disagree.cali_chile48 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:00 amIn Chile, a minimum wage worker makes 350.000/month. 10x that amount is 3.500.000. That's quite a lot of money. Anyone making that much can afford a pay cut, and if this consciousness had been applied in Chile, the country wouldn't be burning.
The bar needs to be a lot higher to be able to say "anyone" making x or more can afford a pay cut imho
This middle class is what needs to be nurtured That class (blue and white collar) is what the poorer class should have reasonable hope to get there.

I use a Branson style of management, train up staff so they can get a good job elsewhere, treat them well so they wish to stay......works for me

Anecdote, my older less ambitious step-daughter just lost her low paid job working for a company that contracts out call center work for VTR. They had previously cut back and on Friday, let everyone in that function go.
VTR has moved that operation to Colombia.
So another way to escape a hike in the minimum wage...

Wikipedia says it's 248 US Dollars in Colombia, 277 in Peru. So yeah, it's totally feasible to outsource jobs that doesn't need to be done locally.mem wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 12:34 pmEntel has been doing the same thing with Peru. Chileans were always relatively expensive workers that often can't be trusted to show up for work. Many Call Centres had already gone elsewhere. Chile's problems started a lot longer than 3 weeks ago.

Another example of Chile paralleling US economic evolution but trailing it by a couple decades as it does so many other things of the Great Teatfraggle092 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 2:27 pmChileans were always relatively expensive workers that often can't be trusted to show up for work.
