Chile Forum is 13 YEARS OLD!!!

Post by admin » Tue Aug 27, 2019 2:51 pm

Strange, I had this feeling all day yesterday and today that I was like forgetting something. My mind sort of wandered off in to thinking about how strange it is to be doing what we are doing so many years later.

Then it occurred to me, when is the forum anniversary?

August 26, 2006.

Yesterday. The forum went live, 13 years ago.

This forum paved our way to Chile. I've started reading it long before moving and nothing else comes close: most sites and articles about the country give no info beyond the very basics and Facebook groups are made of whining and misinformation.

Long live the forum, thanks admin & mods!

when I started this, I never envisioned it would still be going after all these years; that is probably because I never really envisioned how to end it.

How do you pull the plug on something like this after all these years?

There is just way too much information to let it all go off to the great bit bucket in the sky.

for the time being, don't really envision ever shutting it down.

I still don't have a good idea as how to end it.

Do I give it away? Donate it? sell it?

I just don't think it would survive. I have seen a lot of forums, way bigger than this, over the years be killed by change of owners.

We got a few more years to figure that out. Not a high priority at the moment.

however, If I get hit by bus, you are all screwed. I am not sure my wife is going to find anyone that can make sense out of all the forum systems quirks I have sort of hacked around for years; let alone all the users' quirks I have worked around for years.

Congrats and thanks Charles, my only regret is not having found your forum sooner. Would have saved me a lot of headaches that's for sure.

I would like to echo the sentiments of Space Cat. I have benefited greatly from this forum and without a doubt my transition to Chile was made so much simpler. Congrats admin.

Good job. I see it took me a couple of years to find it; I think I was looking up Chilean plumbing parts at the time while on holiday in the UK and somehow stumbled on it via Google.
