yea, I would be pretty surprised if this is not the last nail in the coffin for a Global recession; and, Trump owns this one, as they say in red neck country, lock, stock, and barrel.

Is there some magic trick going to come out from under that mop head up north that he is working on ? or is he going to drive the world along with his country into the gutter like he did his casinos and other businesses , this time Daddy can't save him.

Chile has much bigger problems than Trump, re: "resources curse" and the "Dutch disease."

Copper price declined a bit in the last day and week, so peso weakened.

Copper price at its lowest for 2-3 years today, pesos at its weakest for 2-3 years today.

Same story as usual...

719 today.

the news is talking about the i inflationary spike this likely to cause for everything imported (gas, technology, etc). chile already had spooky low inflation going on.

on the other hand, I seen a chart the other day that ranked chile as one of the top beneficiaries of the trade war, outside of asian countries like Vietnam, etc. was not clear how they reached that conclusion.

It should at least goose some of the exporters.

I am still not buying the copper panic in the market. yea a slowdown in china is not good, but china is still importing more copper than last year, the year before that, etc.

no copper, no development; and about half the world still has no electricity or running water in their home. Think this is just a market over reaction.

Odd how the electricity tariff increases seem to be directly tied to the USD-CLP value, considering that around half of Chile's electricity comes from internal sources, hence not tied to international energy costs. The increased cost of LPG imported from Malaysia I can understand affecting tariffs, but not local Hydro power. So much for the cheaper electricity promised a couple of years ago.

But the government doesn't care because it will get 19% of the increased energy costs in the form of IVA.

The Chilean electricity sector is owned by foreigners - Spanish, US and French. Maybe (just maybe) that has something to do with it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrici ... r_in_Chile
