All Chile RSS Feed?

Anything at all (keep it clean) goes here that does not fit in to any of the other forums.

All Chile RSS Feed?

Post by vinko » Tue Aug 21, 2007 3:07 pm

I've been looking around trying to find an RSS/Atom feed for this site, but have yet to find it.

I'm pretty sure that PHPbb has this functionality, but its obviously not setup.

Is one available?

Is there a possibility of getting one?

Thanks

I agree with that ... an RSS-feed would make it a lot easier to keep up-to-date with all posts.

Yea, rss is great but it tends to generate some problems in the the search engines with duplicate content and scraper websites.

That said, I will look in to seeing if I can set one up in a fairly limited way. Besides most of the time, for personal users, you simply want the headline and perhaps a few sentences to follow along and see if there is anything important going on.

If you create a "robots.txt" file and place it in the root directory of your website, you can then specificy which dirs to allow/disallow search engines to look at.

Example:

----robot.txt-----

User-agent: *
Disallow: /path/to/folder/
Disallow: filename
Disallow: /chileforum/images/
Disallow: /chileforum/feeds/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /archive/

------------------

A file like this should keep the search engines from crawling unwanted files/dirs.

Anyway, any RSS feed would be appreciated. Its difficult to revert back to having to visit each website just to check for new/updated posts.

Let me know if I can help in anyway (server/dev/etc).

Thanks

The Chile forum RSS feed is now operational. Give it a spin at:

Great. Very good also that the whole post can be read from the rss-feed. It saves a lot of time.

yea, just don't forget to stop by once in a while and post. That is likely my biggest fear with the rss feed is people will go completely passive. On the other hand, most of the time rss feeds get people more involved.

I know I have been promising all the kids here that I would do a live chat feature also, but that one I think I am going to have to wait. It has all kinds of potential for creating a mess, before I get the forum upgraded to phpbb 3.0 system.

It is coming however.

Attempting my first use of a reader and chose Allchile as my first RSS feed and naturally can't sort it out. I am using NetNewsWire because supposedly it is the best freebie choice for Mac users. I copied every RSS feed in there and get one of two responses: error 404 or no feed located. Should I try a different reader (Mac friendly) or am I missing a step in the process. Please help me in "plain English" as I no speaky technology.
