ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
<admin note: No politics in this thread. Just reports of active disturbances>
admin, We need a topic where we can share the incidents of looting, violence and demonstrations that are not being shared by the media. A topic specifically for distributing this important info without having to wade through political and social discourse. You could call it Info Update on Danger Zones, or Active Crisis Zones?
Anyone out there in an active crisis zone? I think tonight there will be some. This topic could help members avoid the crisis zone without having to scroll through endless posts of analysis and political or economic discourse to find them.

Trouble is that by the time incidents get reported, they are already over, the turbas have moved on.

I disagree. Some last for hours. We have some excellent onsite reporters on this forum. It certainly beats "head in the sand negativity" and/or wasting valuable time searching through hundreds of comments on several non-specific topics to get information that can save a life.fraggle092 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 1:13 pmTrouble is that by the time incidents get reported, they are already over, the turbas have moved on.

Re: ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
well, in general the biggest protests and disturbances are in fairly predictable areas.
Major urban areas, with large poverty / wealth disparities.
basically anywhere that was fairly sketchy nieghborhoods before this all started, especially after dark, you are going to regularly find protests now.
It seems in general, due to heat and other reasons, late afternoons are when they get started.

Re: ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
you can also pretty predictably find them near central squares of any good size cities.
also, around any major government buildings or universities

Re: ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
so, for example, pretty predictable that in Puerto montt, around the central park, after say 4 or 5 in the afternoon, there will be a protest. osorno, temuco, concepcion, etc city same pattern.
Other thing to keep in mind, that peaceful protests and marches will happen all over the place, but towards the end, the old people, families, etc will disappear and out will come the criminals and the police will move in. the whole tone will change suddenly, and what was peaceful will get really violent really fast.

Plaza Italia, Estacion Central and Metro Santa Lucia are all common flash points in Santiago to avoid.

Re: ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
of course maipu, pointe alto, but not sure why a foriegner would be wondering around those areas unless they were looking for drugs or something. even then, long way to go for drugs.

Re: ACTIVE CRISIS ZONES
you see a pattern?
for those that have been in chile a while, we all know these were all areas that have high (or at least higher) crime rates historically.
like Valparaiso, if you wanted to get mugged in broad daylight, go hang out there looking like a tourist. same with downtown Santiago, you want experience getting pick pocketed, wonder around looking like a tourist. I would not call them "super" dangerous compared to the rest of Latin America, just your chance of having something bad happen to you are much higher in those areas historically than say wondering around los condes, vina del mar, etc. like wise, walking out of the bella vista area at night has always been a crazy dangerous thing to be avoided.
