can someone advise - can I import container with the personal stuff without any temporary or permanent residence in Chile? Just having my foreign passport?

Thanks in advance

Only for Chilean citizens.
temporary residency.

There is another import benfit for citizens that are out of the country for more than two years and are returning.

We are talking about new residents, one time imports. Not citizen imports.

I remember reading somewhere back in 2011, that in order to take benefit of $5k one time exemption, you have to apply for your temp residency for Chile before your cargo arriving to one of Chilean ports? admin, care to elaborate on this issue?

after talking to several customs agents, tax agents and customs itself I can say that exemption of 5k works only and only for holders of visa temporaria valid for minimum one year.
It means if you have visa definitiva, visa temporaria below 1 year, foreign passport, any kind of visa "en tramite" or any other except visa temporaria above one year - you can not get 5k tax exemption. I am not talking about chilean residents - its not my case

Would the tax exemption apply to incoming residents with "Visa Subjeto Contracto"? We are getting our shipping logistics in order, though I am still waiting for my visa to be processed.

Does anyone know how much tax we are talking about anyway? Do they go by a percentage of what is claimed on the shipping list?

It varies from IVA on used value to an accessed Lux tax which is much higher (this is on their experts valuation), I found it evened out as a table and 8 chairs I valued at $1000 USD, they accessed at $250 dollars at IVA rates, both were out as the accessor didn't know who Stickley was ;) ......... $4500 in used hand tools, I valued at $1500, assessed for $2000 by them and I paid IVA rates, get a good agent....... I brought in a full 40 foot container several years ago, no electronics at al seems to be the key, a 65 inch tv, computers and stereos tend to raise red flags, household furniture and a couple of appliances seem to be much easier.........
It's all about the wine.

Hello!

I'm not from Chile. I'm just trying to ship regularly to Chile. I opened an e-commerce business (not in Chile, but shipping to Chile only). Do you know by any chance if I need a RUT number for my items to be delivered to Chile? Can I just use any other identification number, like a passport number?
