Chilean border's to open to tourist, none-residents

Tourist / none-residents can enter Chile starting November 23rd.

1. You must have a negative PCR test completed within 72 hours of flying.

2. ONLY point of entry will be the santiago airport.

3. anyone entering under tourist visa must report their health status and location daily for 14 days, in addition to the PCR test, on the web site: www.c19.cl

4. If you must do quartine on the country, the tourist will be required to pay themselves for the quartine.

5. you must have insurance able to cover all costs related to covid (what this meabs is not clear).

The land borders with all nieghboring countries will remain closed.

NOTE, UPDATED: we are still trying to parse what number 3 means, as they say from "high risk countries according to the WHO". which basically means just about everwhere north of the equator right now, must complete a mandatory 14 day quartine. seems that until December 7th.

Interesting side note, seems the chilean government has suspended all entry for venezuelan nationals, including people appling for visas at the chilean consulate. This includes people that had their passport at the chilean consulate to be stamped.

I imagine that a move like this is a means of accomplishing a political agenda rather than keeping out venezuelans because of the virus. They completely shut down entrance into the country, now Chile can start with a clean slate and chose who they will let in. With the migration crisis from Venezuela, I'd imagine that chileans aren't too fond of people pouring in and taking low skill jobs. Rather than blocking out Brazil for being a center of the virus, they would be more likely to use this opportunity to completely shut down the flow of Haitians for example

Or simply they don't trust the results coming out of Venezuelan labs

Looking forward to the first real life experiences of people passing through the airport on 23rd of November. As always in Chile I have my doubts to whether the rules will be applied as intented by the government...

Opening up for the Eclipse in Pucon are they? What happens in the rest of the world eventually happens in Chile, covid is no different. It will be back to square one by March, Chile will be exactly like Europe, hope I am wrong, but there is no logical reason why we won't follow their footsteps.

I got a bad feeling about this. This all should have been tested in a more controled manner to work out the kinks, long before now. this has half-baked reaction to political pressure written all over it.

Its going to be a disaster to be honest, I feel that bad feeling you have too, all the efforts this year have been a waste of time and the second wave is about to crash over Chile by February/March.

Chile is afraid of outside infection but what if the tourists bring back the new Punta Arenas mutation in time for late fall/early winter in the Northern Hemisphere?
