Re: Chile Declares State of Emergency for 90 days
since October, I as yet to be stopped at any checkpoint, for anything.
In fact the regular random checks of car papers and speed traps have all but disappeared from my local highway. guess the cops got better things to do.

in related news.
The new minister of health is asking congress to accelerate passing a new law to increase the consequences for breaking quarantine.
It makes no sense to quarantine the country, costing 10's of billions of dollars, to try and save lives, then not crack down hard on the wankers that are breaking the quarantine.

This has been the case since the cordon sanitaria and now total quarantine of San Antonio and it is indeed real and works.

This sounds about right. Son has the return portion of a flight with American and they say they won't be back until October. He will have to get a flight with LATAM to Miami and connect from there.eeuunikkeiexpat wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 4:26 pmSo September 13th will be the big day that we hope it all ends...

sometimes I wonder if Pinera has ever been to Chile.Según el Mandatario, "nada de lo que haga el Gobierno va a rendir frutos fecundos sino tenemos la colaboración, la disciplina, la responsabilidad de todos los ciudadanos.

State of Emergency extended from the 14th to the 25th of September for Fiestas Patrias purposes.
So we wait to see what the gov decides around the 25th.

"...The Government decided to extend the State of Constitutional Exception for 90 days...
Otherwise - the quarantines and curfew could not be renewed...
Therefore, only people with positive COVID could have been confined...
Thus, ... it was necessary to extend the State of Constitutional Exception for 90 days under the argument that the pandemic still is not controlled in the country..."

Re: Chile Declares State of Emergency for 90 days
This needs more clarification date wise as the previous ended on the 13th at midnight, but then was extended "through" (I believe vs. "to") the 25th (so the 25th at midnight). So is this a 90 day extension from the 13th or the 25th while the article references the 15th??? but given the frequent inaccuracy of the Chile media....
So the new key date based on the ending of the second 90 days on September 13t at midnight places the new date at December 12 at midnight.

So to clarify: Will Chile be officially closed until at least December? We're looking to move here but have been waiting for months to have any official word from the government as to when the borders will open. This is a nightmare as we have to coordinate with our (non-operational) embassies to request the necessary documents which Chile only accepts within the first 60 days... Any help would be very appreciated!

This has absolutely nothing to do with immigration nor ability to enter the country for none residents.
But, yeah you will probably be at least November before there is any announcements of opening the boarders. Immigration will probably be haulted for longer than that.
My advice, don't make any decisions or spend any money planning to move to chile until there are official (published) announcements related to both.
It very well could be around july 2021 before chile fully opens due to the downward spiral in nieghboring countries.
