Re: Chilean Borders To close Wednesday, March 18th
They did it.
They said only "permanent residents" in the official resolution.
We are filing an immediate clarification and appeal with the department of immigration, but that most likely will take time to sort out one way or the other.
Our advice at this point, if you are temporary resident, you have until Wednesday to return if you do not want to be shutout of the country.

UPDATE:
Current information we have both from official sources and practical cases we are dealing with.
IF YOU ARE A TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT RESIDENT, YOU WILL BE LET IN THE COUNTRY.
If you are in the country, under a tourist visa, and you either have filed for residency or wish to file for residency, STAY IN THE COUNTRY UNTIL YOUR TEMPORARY RESIDENCY IS GRANTED!!!!
If you leave, before your temporary residency is granted, you will not be allowed back in the country.
If you had temporary residency, and you are extending your temporary residency for another year (e.g. subject to contract), you will be let in the country.
Finally, and just to repeat this for all those that still think applying for citizenship is a bad thing, or they don't need it, or whatever: APPLY FOR YOUR CITIZENSHIP NOW!!!!!
This is a clear cut example of why you should apply for citizenship before you need it. They could have just as easily blocked all permanent residents from entering the country, or placed other restrictions on permanent residents. Not likely, but under such a national and international state of emergency, anything is possible.
Remember: Home is that place they HAVE TO TAKE YOU.

Further, if you are currently a tourist in Chile, apply for temporary residency.
The department of immigration is renewing tourist visas, but as we have no idea how long this is going to go on, best to file if you can and assume that this is going to be a while.
We could be looking at 6 months or more of this state of emergency and boarder restrictions. Best to start filing now.

If you are a temporary resident, you will be allowed in. Even if you file, and it takes them say 8 months to process it, you remain a temporary resident. Your last status is your current status.proger wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:32 pmwhat about if im in visa temporada and as they told me i need to wait at least 9 month with this visa before hending all my papers for the visa definitiva( which is around july...)?admin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2020 11:43 amThey did it.

My advice however is do not leave the country unless you absolutely must right now, and that goes for EVERYONE. citizen or anyone else.
they could close the boarders to everyone, or the country you transit could close their borders.

Re: Chilean Borders To close Wednesday, March 18th
Are the border closures just for entering Chile? Can you still leave if you don't need to come back? Or are they preventing departures as well?

The more important question, are there any flights to get you to where you want to go?
Que será, será.
Re: Chilean Borders To close Wednesday, March 18th
I guess as long as you can find somewhere to go and some way to get you there.
