I am watching bill gates on CNN.

He got me thinking.

This is not going to end soon.

even if all those 82,000 people, really at least a few million in the wild, get well, it will be like at least 8 month recovery. All that and we have not peaked, we are looking at like July. Even then there will have to be a reassessment. we will probably also have the entire developing world on fire.

This is a year.

I am pretty sure, my best guess at this point, this will be in our face everyday for a year; even just picking up the pieces.

I think in very very roughly one month (so could be 3 weeks or 6) we will start to have answers (at the very least for the developed world including China and Chile in that) to questions like how many will die, how long will this last, and how many people have or have had the virus. By around then there should be testing deployed (to everyone who is sick and a good sample of those who are not), better scientific research done, a better understanding perhaps of how long the vaccine will take, a clearer view of when most countries will peak and so on.

so, fucking bachelet strikes again.

so, when they did their tax reform, they forced companies to pay a dividend by law, to force the rich to pay taxes; rather than leave their money in a company.

well, guess what?

now that companies need to cut their dividends to shore-up their balance sheet, they can't cut it past the mandatory 30%.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/empresas/ind ... 84013.html

what does that do? It forces a company to start looking at other things, such as cutting jobs, canceling contracts, etc.

so this I think is worth reading. It is a count of deaths in one town, that the numbers do not add-up. Either everyone in the town has covid-19, or a lot of people are also dying from just interruption of healthcare services.

well, here is a bullet that zipped by Chile's. One of the ships that was blocked from making landfall, just had 4 people die on it off the coast of Panama, plus it sounds like at least 80 crew and passengers are sick.

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/03/27/fou ... board.html

yes, sorry that people died; but frigen carnival cruise lines has massive insurance policies that would have more than covered private evacuation of these passengers.

The 'we are following the guidance of the CDC' translates to legal speak for 'we are following the guidance of the insurance company lawyers to limit our responsibility and liability'. Cheaper to settle a few lawsuits with the family, than take responsibility for the lives on board that ship.

That ship alone, 1600 passengers, could have swamped Chile health system capacity and other resources.
