Ecuador has some crazy shit going on.

one mayor physically blocked a runway with cars and trucks to stop a spanish evacuation flight landing to pickup European nationals.

789 cases, 14 deaths

sounds like the health minister has resigned.

743 deaths in Italy, over 69,000 cases.
Italy is wrongly classifying deaths as caused by corona virus which are not. It is a way to game the system and get more resources for your hospital. If doctors want to get masks and gloves allocated, they have to do this.

I have been hearing the exact opposite. politicians classifying people as having died with covid-19, rather than because.

Remember, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." (sometimes unwittingly)

Moral of the story: Be very careful when comparing and interpreting statistics; they might differ in their conditions, assumptions and measures.
Chile: My expectations are low. Very low.
I accept chaos. I'm not sure whether it accepts me.

yea, no shit. we have been saying this since the outbreak in china. what is your point?

That is evidence of some grand conspiracy for indivdual hospitals to get more resources?

It is obvious the statistics are not even remotely accurate, everywhere.

Here is the thing. At some point, the real numbers will come out. This is not like the 1918 spanish flue where we have limited data. There is lots of data. In fact possibly too much to sort right now.

some group of scientists, probably long after this all over, will take hard look at the samples and start working up a map of the RNA mutations, run that against public records and other data, and will come-up with some sort of fairly accurate forensic count of how many were infected, how many died, when, where, etc.

All the politicians and governments playing games with the numbers will eventually have to explain some very serious discrepancies.

Early on they kept saying this was China's Chernobyl. Well, no, this is the world's Chernobyl. Again, we are about to find out how naked the emperors are; all of them.

here is a creepy graphic. on average in lombardy province, someone dies every 3 mins and 35 seconds. they have a countdown clock at the top of the article, and it is about the time it takes to read the article.

No stopping it now, hopefully they cam flatten the curve enough to keep deaths to a minimum

Shocking that Chile is part of the 1000+ country club. Even passed Ecuador. But if bureaucratic minded automatons have a repetitive task to conduct like testing, this could be helpful for us in terms of rigorous identification of the scale for Chile. Hopefully not false postives/negatives

As a side note (mentioned in previous post)...that guy in Seattle that I work with as a vendor was exposed to the nursing home with a cluster, has tested positive...as has his wife. He is still working but his wife is in critical condition in ICU.
