There would be a riot if they started to restrict alcohol sales at this point...

Yeah my retornables are gathering dust and probably supporting a beer penicillin culture or two.

o.k., going to try and hold my nose, and give as fair a summary of the more important findings as possible. This is not a complete study by any stretch of the imagination.

only 434 participants in the study. all were medical workers.

This was not a study that provides clinical outcomes.

what it does provide is some measure of antibodies in the participants.

ran November 2020 to January 2021 (participants added)

they did the second injections after 14 days, but not clear how far out they went after the 14 days with the second shot.

they do seem to detect improved antibodies after 28 days.

At best they can say it safe, and it seems to produce antibodies.

This is more of a glorified phase 2 trial than a phase 3.

There seems to be almost no detectiable antibodies after 1 shot, so no one go run out to party.

It's interesting the article carefully uses "seroconversion rate" term instead of efficacy. In fact high seroconversion rate does not necessarily mean that the vaccine effectively protects people against Covid-19  Just keep in mind "seroconversion rate" is not vaccine’s efficacy.

The frigen Minsal, and the university of chile, plus a pile of other talking heads were representing this as a full phase lll trial.

just more PR bullshit.

My take on this, sinovac vaccine will not kill you, it seems to do something, but untill there is more real data, don't depend on it for protection. Better than not having it, but how much better we have no idea.

I could have conducted a more in-depth study just standing outside the public health clinic in Frutillar with a pocket full of pesos.

but here is a jewel of headline supposedly derived from that study,
Estudio de efectividad de Sinovac en Chile: Vacunación impidió que número de contagiados entre 75 y 79 años fuera 80% más
https://www.emol.com/noticias/Nacional/ ... chile.html

That does not even make any sense as a sentence; never mind, no where in that study can you reach any sort of conclusion.

There is more "seroconversion" going on at my local grocery store right now than in that study.

Vaccine drive slowing down this week according to the calendar. only 52, 51 and 50 year old to be vaccinated. I thought it might be due to those age groups being disproportionally big, but that is not the case - actually the 53-59 were bigger. Should be about 240-250.000 in each group. If we subtract all the ones already vaccinated in those groups + the antivax crowd, then my guess would be something like 150K / day. So why only 1 group per day and why using Thursday and Friday for the ones who didn't go yet?
Only explanation I can find is due to supply... unless we see some big deliveries this week from China, then I will start to worry
I'm not sure about deliveries from China, but last week's shipment from Pfizer was actually the largest one yet to Chile (368k). Hopefully it's the start of a trend of larger shipments from that lab (previously they were like half that figure).

Study of effectiveness of vaccine campaign from U. de Chile:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIO-wmrNXKM

Presentation starts around 7 minute mark.

Don't think there's anything real eye-opening there. They are basically estimating how many cases there would have been in different age groups had there been no vaccination. Appears they don't have access to the information about which new cases are folks who did get the vaccine and those who didn't.

I also wonder what "104 observations" means. Is that the number of people in the study?
