Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile
oh, and this is interesting related note. call it the vaccine wars.
The frigen Russians have unleashed their trolls all over the internet to attack not only the efficacy of the western vaccines, but the companies and regulators. for example, I yesterday seen on a stock forum just an explosion of posts pumping the wonders of the russian vaccine, while slamming the western vaccine and stocks of all the companies involved in producing the vaccine. In the last year, or ever for that matter, I had never seen a single mention of anything related to russia, about snythjng. yet, suddenly they were everywhere.
I am not going to even link to any of it, because it just turns in to a cat call for attacks on the forum. Do some googling. there are plenty of articles in security circles coming out about the Russian government activity.

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile
seems pfizer will submit their vaccine for aproval for use in chile next week.
https://www.emol.com/noticias/Nacional/ ... virus.html
chile has prepurchased 10.1 million doses.
chile also signed a contract to buy 4 million doses of azstrazenca-oxford vaccine today.
https://www.df.cl/noticias/empresas/sal ... 71447.html
looks like ETA is around late December or early January for the pfizer to start vaccinations in Chile; but, still waiting on confirmation of that.

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile
assuming all the data is good on these vaccines, that is sufficient vaccine for about half the population.
I think the objective is to vaccinate the most high risk before next fall (February / March), taking the pressure off the medical system goong in to flue season so we don't get a repeat of last year or what is going on now in the northern hemisphere. leaving the rest of the population to be vaccinated say by June or July.
again, I want to see the full data on these vaccines.

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile
Chile had 1,718 new cases today, 44 deaths.
so there was a study out today that estimates something like 13% of the population of chile has had covid. about 3.2 times the confirmed tested rate according to the health ministery.
so I was looking at the midwest united states (as I mostly come from there), and trying to wrap my brain around the scale of the pandemic there. especially with the after Thanksgiving cases yet to hit.
what got my attention, was a stat that in North Dakota about 10% of the population has covid, currently. not total since the pandemic started. 10% has active covid. their positivity rate is over 60%, when people get tested.
last week, at one point the Dakotas (north and south), had they been a country by themselves, would have the second most deaths in the world.
so I started doing some quick calculations.
Chile has about 22.5 x the population of south dakota (884,000). they had over 16,000 new cases, today. that would be like chile having 320,000 new cases in a single day. I mean like I even took a quick look through the local obituaries to see if I recognized any names. there were 54 new deaths on saturday, that would be like 1,215 people dieing in a single day in Chile.
I am however dismissing their death numbers as most of those midwest states play games with their death certificates and reporting, and it may be years before we know the real numbers (if ever). there is very little standardization in how deaths are reported. We can conclude it is really frigen high.
Minnesota, chile has 3.19 times the population. they had over 9,000 new cases over two days. that would be like chile with 28,000 cases in a day.
Iowa, pop 3.15 million. chile has 5.17 times the population. 2,360 new cases, or like 12,201 cases in Chile. however, they are only reporting like 130,000 people recovered, out of like 250,000 total cases. so like there are over a hundred thousand active cases?
All the other midwest states are in as bad a shape. The rest of the united states is not much better, or will be even worse shortly.
Remeber this Thanksgiving weekend. people will likly wait until monday, before this weekends real numbers come out. people went and had turkey with their families, rather than go to the doctor or get tested.
In about 2 to 6 weeks, all the Thanksgiving infections will start showing up in the stats. just in time for Christmas and new years.
I am starting to seriously doubt those death projections for the united states. It is likly to be much higher.
even if they started deploying a mass vaccine say next week (there are flights shipping vaccine right now), those vaccines dont really start taking effect for 30 to 60 days after the second dose (optististic). It could February / March before things start leveling off. basically, the vaccine is too late to save the u.s. this year. Spring / Summer is going to be here before the vaccine has an impact.
Even worse, I think news of a vaccine could make it worse. Once people hear there is vaccine being deployed, but before sufficient numbers of people recieve it (herd immunity), people will start ignoring the already ignored safty measures. big difference between having a vaccine, and deploying a vaccine.
The u.s. had 1 million new cases in just 6 days; however, that number dose not even begin to capture what is really going on there.

I am not sure it is even worth worrying about covid on frozen food. I would not eat sushi right now, but anything being cooked is hardly a concerned. by the time you wash it, prep it, cook it, probably expose it to sunlight, covid is the least of your worries.
