Yea, I caught some of that "news conference" yesterday, and could not find a complete idea, let alone sentence in the whole thing.

Meanwhile my favorite chart they keep showing is Canada vs. the United States new cases.

The first time I looked at it, It took me a while to figure it out.

where is Canada?

Then I realized the line on the bottom of the chart was not the x-axis line at the bottom of the chart, but Canada's new cases.

it was so flat and straight it just blended in to the x-axis line.

Just a quick visual aid, for whoever hadn't seen that already:

New COVID-19 cases: Canada vs. USA

You can tweak around that website to compare other countries. They use self-reported data for their database and they provide links that you can use to double-check it with official data. I've set this graph to show the 7-day rolling average, as that allows for a better visualization regardless of weekends or when deaths in remote areas are reported, but the website allows you to switch it to daily new cases, if you wish.

Chile is flattening the curve, one way Canada has done it is keep the border with the US closed, we just got another 30 days.....

Now Canada is in test and trace mode.

I'm not sure about flattening, the excess death curve looks more like a downward slope now:

Exactly as I said a few weeks ago, after doing everything wrong from March to June, they finally imposed a proper quarantine in Santiago, and 2-3 weeks later, well, here are the results :-) It was too easy, wasn't it?

'...The Ministry of Health announced that in agreement with the Presidency of the Republic, it was determined that the first tests of vaccines against Covid-19 will begin in early August, in a number close to 3,000 patients.

"Currently there are three very advanced possibilities because they are already in phase 3, that is, they allow tests on human beings," explained the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris. "These are the Sinovac Biotech (China), CanSino Biologics (China) and the AstraZeneca vaccines together with the University of Oxford (United Kingdom)."

The secretary of state indicated that he had held an extensive meeting with President Sebastián Piñera where they analyzed the characteristics of the existing vaccines, but that there is still a lack of background to make a decision regarding which one will be tested in Chile.

Paris added that the data is being analyzed with the Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Immunizations (Cavei), and that once a safe option has been determined, it aims to acquire an amount between 10 to 15 million vaccines, giving priority to populations at risk...'

here is one to keep an eye on.

a common cholesterol drug that can downgrade covid to common cold. covid seems to stop the body from burning fat, the fat buildups in the body leads to the worse sorts of complications.

at least this one should be able to get a thumbs up, thumbs down study fairly quickly as there is millions of people that already take it, and limited issues with testing it on human subjects.
