San Antonio comes out of its longest Paso 1 (8 weeks, 5 days) . Quarantine never did work in reducing the key numbers so looks like they quietly will let it go to Paso 2.
We need a new word for quarantine. Chile doesn't have a true quarantine. A true Quarantine would not allow a local ice cream shop to stay open because it's technically food and food since food is essential we must allow it to be open. The Chilean quarantines have been a joke at best and a living nightmare at worst. Where I am at we have been in quarantine for almost 2 months as well and the cases just keep going up.

yea, they are going to move much of santiago in to phase two this week, but frutillar no. even though our cases per km density is microscopic compared to all of santiago. there are buildings in santiago probably with more cases than we have.

yet, llanquille and puerto varas, are being moved to phase 3. we are essentially the same frigen population. people are as likely to shop and catch covid in puerto varas, come back to frutillar, then be tested as they are to catch it here in town.

The whole quartine is pure political bullshit. no connection to science at all.

The morons are going to open more schools in Santiago, where the vast majority of a the cases in the country is located, but we are still in quartine?

They are lucky we don't have any of those shitty chinese electric buses down here, because I sure am in the mood to burn a couple right now.

Like, I would be surprised if there is anyone within a 5 km radius of me that has covid right now, as everyone is about 90% vaccinated due to their age and /or has gone almost nowhere for a month (I can hear or see all of their cars come and go).

I have a much better chance of catching hanta virus from a mouse in my shed right now, than covid.

But, we are under a phase 1 quartine.

I don't know if I would call Santiago East (Las Condes and the rest of that crew) "much" of Santiago. I live in Puente Alto (still) and we are under no illusion of moving to phase 2 anytime in the near future.

Yes, please share. When do you fly? How many days in advance of flying did you apply for the permiso to leave? How long did you have to wait for an approval? Did you have to give a reason for leaving Chile? Do you have a return ticket or are you flying one way?

so, the estimates for india, clearly under reported think the cases are more like 30x reported cases, or about half a billion covid cases.

Deaths are probably closer to 1 million.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/04/27/indi ... index.html

before the pandemic, something like 86% of deaths went unofficially report. now it is probably even worse than that.

Two notes re. Peru:

1. "The government on Saturday issued a decree requiring Peruvians to wear two masks inside businesses such as grocery stores, shopping malls and pharmacies, and in crowded public areas, starting from monday. Everyone had to wear plastic visors."

So, *in addition* to two face masks, face shields must be worn. If I understand it rightly.

2. "Former Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra, who this month has been banned from public office on allegations jump the queue to get the coronavirus vaccine last year, said he and his wife tested positive for COVID-19."
