well, part of buying these tests is our family has a particular hairy situation because of my mother in law needing dyalis.

when the kids were potentially exposed at school, we found out on a sunday night. she needs dyalis on tuesday night. my SIL was not able to get a test on Monday, now we are down to tuesday morning, with no confirmation. it was not just my MIL in question, both of her drivers were suspects too. my brother in law drives her one way, I drive the other way, to the dyalis center.

so we had mas o menos 48 hours to figure out, if there was a real exposure, in spite of the vaccination of all the adaults in the family, or things would get really frigen complicated.

the protocol is that we have to coordinate with the dyalis center for an ambulance, to take her to the regional hospital for dyalis, and no one in the family can go with.

I spoke to a doctor friend this weekend and she said the % of vaccinated people going to UCI because of COVID is very low. Good news..
I'm afraid it is much too high
https://www.minsal.cl/63-de-los-hospita ... -covid-19/

37% of all UCI patients are vaccinated (63% are non-vaccinated). If efficiency really would be 90%, then that percentage should be in the order of 11% (i.e. 89% from non-vaccinated).

(54% x 10%) / (54% x 10% + 46% x 100%)

where 54% percentage of vaccinated target population (and thus 46% non-vaccinated) and
where 10% = 1-90% = 1 - efficiency percentage (per definition the efficiency for non-vaccinated person is zero)

Because of these numbers I'm sceptical of all the numbers showing Sinovac working in the 90% range. Also the link posted by Admin about 50% of vaccinated people lossing their immune response after six months points in the same directions.

My best estimate is in the 30-50% efficiency range for Sinovac.
This interview confirms my friends perception though:

https://www.latercera.com/nacional/noti ... WEP65X35Y/

“En mi hospital prácticamente el 80% de los pacientes Covid-19 son bajo los 50 años, y prácticamente todos los menores de 40 años no están vacunados”, sostuvo..
En el caso de no haber tenido la vacuna y con la existencia de las nuevas cepas, Castillo advierte que “no habrían dado ha basto” con los contagios y hospitalizaciones.

I think further improvements will only come out of vaccination progress, social restrictions are clearly not working.

You started with a mention of UCI patients, and Fugger's reply was about "UCI patients", not about "hospitalized patients".
17 may 2021

“hoy un 30% de las hospitalizaciones son menores de 40 años y un 20% de hospitalizaciones en UCI son personas con menos de 40 años."
