So quick update.

Chile had 18 deaths today. That is progress. I guess.

Interesting study the doctor had today about masks.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqZLMoLvhgk

Seems, someone did a study and worked out that masks, might be actually vaccinating the population. By using a mask, people are being exposed to the virus, in sufficiently small doses, to causing a immune responce without people getting extremely sick from a full exposure reducing the severity of the dieses. Basically the old, old school way of vaccinating people is sort of naturally occurring in the population.

Interesting theory. Not sure I would want to bet my life on it. But, since people are wearing them anyway,....

Which, if true, just brings me back to my prediction that one way or the other, this whole thing is going to be substantially over by next July 2021, with or without a vaccine.

So, cases and deaths in chile have been clearly trending lower. Let's hope the 18th holiday does not blow-up that trend.

Latest cases: 1,194

deaths: 12

Argentina is got a steady over 10,000 cases a day going on, and over 13,000 deaths.

The northern hemisphere seems to be blowing-up in a big way. The flue season has kicked-off with the first confirmed cases in the states and Europe. Remember, the northern hemisphere managed to get coronavirus aa flue season was winding down, while coronavirus was still ramping up. Two very dangerous ships that past in the night. Now, me them both in schools that are going back to in person classes, and more indoor time as winter sets in.

This year could be a very different spike.

So this study was sited by the good doctor, regarding the prevelence of existing T-cell immunity in populations to covid.

https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3563.full

In short, covid-19 is not so novel, and between 20 to 50% of the population may have some level of immunity due to previous exposure to other types of corona virus. Add in an estimated 10% to 25% people in many populations that have anti-bodies to covid-19, we may be closer to the end than people think.

That said, and more than a bit disturbing, this T-cell immunity is not really being studied, and it does not appear to be included in the placibo control groups for vaccine studies. If this is a major factor, it could produce scewd results on the final data by which vaccines are approved.

We very well could have a vaccine that appears to be more or less effective than it really is. The world could spend billions deploying a vaccine that is nowhere near the price of admission, to hundreds of millions, that do not need it.

So it seems Argentina has been topping over 400 deaths a day. Just one problem. Those are not deaths from the previous 24 hours, or even a few days ago. They have deaths being added from over a month ago, in addition to what appears to be a current excellerating case and death rate.

"The Economist has gathered all-cause mortality data from countries which report them weekly or monthly, a group which includes most of western Europe, some of Latin America, and a few other large countries, including the United States, Russia and South Africa (see lower part of data panel). Between March and August these countries recorded 580,000 covid-19 deaths but 900,000 excess deaths; the true toll of their share of the pandemic appears to have been 55% greater than the official one....Add to all this excess mortality unreported deaths from countries where record keeping is not good enough to allow such assessments and the true death toll for the pandemic may be as high as 2m."

My guestimate is that it is even higher than that by now.

I am almost more amazed by how far off the "experts" have been through all this, when statisticians can nail down to a square block the demand for blue widgets vs. red widgets, how many people will die of heart attack this year, and how many people will get divorced on any particularly block; but, not what the global deaths have been so far from covid. Not even asking for a prediction. Just a interpretation of the existing data.
