I am going to try and collect and post the neighbouring country numbers, but I have my doubts about almost all of them.

Argentina 19 deaths, 745 confirmed cases, 55 new over yesterday.

Unfortunately all the numbers we are fed are pretty useless.

Infection rates
- mostly a function of testing rates and
- test quality

Mortality rates
- possibility for under- und overreporting especially if death was not solely caused by Covid-19

On the latter interesting article from El Pais on excess mortality rates being much higher than the reported numbers from Covid-19 https://elpais.com/sociedad/2020-03-27/ ... tadas.html

Probably in a couple of months we will have a much better bigger with standard antibody testing and getting the complete statistics from civil registries.

Bolivia I am having hard time finding info, but seems 80 cases total, 1 official death.

I don't buy those numbers at all.

Chile still has one of the lowest death numbers relatively to the number of cases, here are cases/deaths:
  • Czech Republic — 2,743 / 13
  • Malaysia — 2,470 / 35
  • Ireland — 2,415 / 36
  • Denmark — 2,395 / 72
  • Chile — 2,139 / 7
  • Ecuador — 1,890 / 57
  • Poland — 1,771 / 20

yea, unfortunately my fear about this just getting going in the developing world, are coming to reality.

India has created a mess with their half baked attempt to lockdown the country, causing millions of of poor indians to flee cities to their rural towns.

Chile's strategy seems to be working thus far. 7 deaths with 2139 cases is really on the low side, and most of those who died had comorbidities.

Checking this data: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ ... and sorting by the number of deaths, Chile has one of the "better" death to infected ratios. It seems that the quarantine that is being implemented is really working out. It should be possible to keep the quarantine up for 3-4 more weeks in order to massively curb the virus' spread in Chile.

The country currently has 1700 ventilators (with 800 more on the way), so it should be able to weather the storm. I only wish they were more serious in enforcing the quarantine to avoid other episodes like the one from yesterday, with the infected woman that tried to go from a clinic straight to the Jumbo in Alto Las Condes.

And I think that really shouldn't surprise anyone. As much as the protestors like to bash on the Chilean health system, I think it really works for those who really need it. Waiting for outpatient specialist visits is a reasonable price to pay for a system where those who would de elsewhere can be saved. I wonder how well the Chilean healthcare system will rank the next time these systems are ranked. The way that this epidemic is being handled deserves a rank increase, in my opinion.

I think the health care in Chile is better than the US, at least in my experience. It is actually one of the reasons I am not rescheduling my return flight to Chile. I figure if I do get sick it is better to be somewhere that I receive affordable health care.

I am afraid chile's numbers are not going to remain low for long. I believe there is at least two old folks homes in the country that most everyone is infected. If there is just one, then they all probably have cases.
