A tax holiday would be helpful.

It addresses not one single problem or social demand.

It is a super stinky political red herring, so none of the politicians or political parties have to actually stick their neck out and own the problems.

Some politicians and some TV presenters I saw this morning seemed to think was a major step forward. I think it would have made more sense to start with a big increase to the minimum wage and pensions if they really want to try and calm things down.
Yeah I have my doubts too about this strategy, I think lots are just seeing it as "any thing " will do at this stage to stop the violence.
Hope I'm wrong, it happens, but gut feeling is not feeling the optimism some are feeling, Admin summed it up well.

here is the thing, in theory, this seems to be the best of the worse options on the table.

again, I am however very pessimistic about how thing will function in practice.

so here is the other shoe to drop.

the far left is trying to hijack the whole process by setting quotas for groups that all vote heavily far left.

among others:
mapuche
women / men 50 / 50
chilean expats (large communities of exhiles that were pro-allende, communist, socialist, etc)
and kids as young as 14 (are you fucking kidding me)

I am for all these groups, except the kids, participating, but one citizen, one vote.

If they set predetermined quotas, they are deligitimizing the entire process, exactly the way they claim the 1980's constitution is not legitimate.

the far left knows they are such a minority, that without stacking the electoral deck, they can not control the process.

Since Chile taxation is residency based, Chilean expats should not be able to vote. Only those with skin in the game (resident) should vote.

Agree, Chileans living permanently abroad should not have the right to vote. They are mostly lefties, which is why Bachelet's government introduced this costly, and in terms of votes cast, irrelevant change to the system.

I am totally willing to vote for a communist, gay transgender mapuche "women", if she / he is qualified and can sell me on having good ideas for a constitution and the country; but, don't dilute my right to vote for them, or not, with pre-rigged quota bullshit.

One person, one vote as long as you’re a Citizen. Citizens living overseas included.
Keep it simple.
