frutillar went from zero active cases, to 29 suspect. even worse it is the entire staff of the local public hospital. a patient tested negative initially, then later tested positive, and 29 staff were exposed. the ministry of health sent in new people from out of town, and swapped out the entire hospital staff until the regular staff completes quarantine or tests negative.

brazil is now the second most cases in the world, after the United States.
Cases are rising in Brazil and the government is split: Bolsonaro is a crazy level of antiscience (refusing to accept dozens of studies that show that chloroquine doesn't work), while most governors are trying to implement some sort of social distancing/isolation.

Brazil may end up not passing the USA due to a lack of testing.

I would be pretty surprised if Brazil surpasses the US...I'd think there would have to be >=2 out 3 people there anti-mask...but only the US has that ignoble statistic. Most other places are <=1 out of 3

not sure where it is now, but just read an article that brazil is not including deaths in the official count even when the death certificate says something like "suspected covid-19".

so we plugged in to the frutillar grapevine for local intel. we have a friend that is a nurse at the local hospital.

It all sort of makes sense of what I was seeing yesterday from my front porch now.

a whole series of airforce turboprop planes were landing and taking off from our local airport yesterday morning (really more like a dirt runway, with couple hangers). They were flying in new medical staff and teams to do the testing and tracing.

seems the guy that tested positive came in, was tested, came back negative. he was in the hospital, not isolated, but over the next 11 days started deteriorating and no one could figure out why. they then ran a new PCR test that came back positive.

Everywhere it is creeping closer and closer. Ontario went into stage 1 of relaxing the lockdown, prematurely imho. This meant some retail stores were open if they had the clear protective barriers at the cash registers and people practiced social distancing. My neighbor interpreted this as having a jam session with 4 friends in his garage. Three days later my neighbor woke up very sick. He went for a COVID test, expects results in 24 to 48 hours He said nobody was sick at the session. I explained the concept of asymptomatic spreaders and how they can distribute the virus freely until they eventually develop symptoms... or don't.

Sorry to hear that. What did he say his symptoms were? I guess he wasn't ill enough for the hospital to hold him overnight, so that's good.

Very sore throat, hoarse voice, fatigue, loss of appetite, cough. He's a "man" so it took him a while to admit he was sick. Unless you have breathing difficulty, the health system tells you to go home and quarantine yourself for 2 weeks while you heal. Return if you get much worse or cannot breathe. He has a tenant in his basement. I dropped off throat lozenges on his back porch and saw his tenant who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. I asked my neighbor how he was handling the tenant situation and keeping his tenant from becoming infected. He said the tenant lives in the basement and only comes up to share the kitchen and bath. They communicate by text message so both aren't in the kitchen at the same time. But I think the tenant has realized what many know... the virus is airborne. And I did not notice any open windows in the kitchen or anywhere in the house.

It finally bit them ass.

Even the Argentina press is now calling Fernandez out on his fantasy covid bullshit numbers.

https://www.lanacion.com.ar/economia/co ... 369056/amp

He tried to give an andrew cuomo type press briefing to announce why he was extending the quarantine for another 15 days, then showed all these charts with fake numbers from around the world to compare to Argentina. Chief among them was the comparison with Chile. The Chilean ambassador was on it immidiatly, because this is like third time he has done this.

He said Chile had 98.9 deaths per 100 thousand, which would mean Chile has 17,712 deaths (based on the numbers as presented).

By comparison, he says Argentina only has 9.8 deaths per 100,000.

but the funnier one, was he screwed up his own stats, and ironically they are probably far closer to the truth. If his numbers were correct, Argentina would have 4300 dead. not the official 450 or whatever other magical socialist number they are making up.

Are you really going to buy the numbers out of a country that has been faking their economic numbers for most of the last two decades?

Then also, this might explain the perpetual economic mess Argentina is always in. No one can do math on the otherside of the mountain.

This women, a well known community leader in one of the ghettos of the capital of Argentina, has died of covid.

https://www.batimes.com.ar/news/argenti ... eath.phtml

a few weeks ago I read an interview with her, where she said 50% of the people in the nieghborhood that had been tested were positive. That is a 50,000 plus nieghborhood, and it is not the only one.

I don't even know what he was thinking.

Like he was going to present all those bullshit numbers, and no one was going to notice?

He could have presented for example a bunch of bullshit numbers against say some country in Europe that would not even notice nor would anyone in Argentina.

but he knew Chile was watching, because he already presented a bunch of bullshit numbers a few weeks ago about Chile and got called out about it in the press.
