Land Ownership in the 21st Century

In Chile, when the old, crazy, and infirm are institutionalized and set out in a wheelchair on the patio to drool all over each other they are referred to as “locos de patio”. This is where we keep our locos de patio on the All Chile Forum.

DL 2,695

Post by admin » Thu Jul 14, 2011 7:28 pm

I am going to open a separate thread on the issue of DL 2,695 law, as it is completly seperate animal from the other laws and problems discussed in this thread. It is really the dirty secret / problem of real estate in Chile, that deserves its own thread discussion in the EL Patio (because new people I am sure will freak out about it).

Here in Dichato we have had a lot of engineers in town with the rebuilding projects. They had to do a lot of surveying work, so they built some markers, just concrete blocks with a piece of iron re-bar stuck in the middle. Nothing like the brass caps from USGS, but good enough for the immediate need.

I am interested in doing some careful measurements on and around my property, not so much for evidence in a court of law, but just so that I feel better about my knowledge of the specific properties I want to develop.

Yea, the transit level I bought is really more of builder's or dumpy level. No vertical on it. Which for my property that is small and fairly flat, with a 13 foot grade rod it is fine. It means I need to do a bit more math and moving it around a bit more. I would not try it with a say a 200 hectare property, but for 5,000 square meters or even something say up to about 20 hectares of open land it works fine. I intended to use it for things like laying out fences, foundations, and perhaps drainage. I also got a really good laser level for closer work.

Unfortunately, they are no longer for sale. I got it for like $39 off of amazon, along with a dewalt tripod for another $35 on sale. The quality was really impressive, very heavy metal and precise over long distances. I can see a tree branch at over 3 miles, and actually have almost made errors by looking at the wrong point hundreds of meters away as I tried to focused it on something. I would have just been happy to get like a toy builder level for that price.
