we believe " culebra de cola corta". trying to figure out what it eats.

seems it is venomous, but again figuring the mouth was too small to even get around my finger.

Must be the season I saw one in the forest on sunday at our place I was so shocked to see them here. Thought was too cold I was too chicken to pick it up. Yeah its a short tail snake . They are found nearly all over Chile, to Chiloe I found and not that uncommon apparantly.
In the Lakes Region Chile for 6 years. It looks like New Zealand in some ways, and is nearly at the bottom of the world too, but there the similarities end.

Not deadly apparantly I was reading, maybe a reaction but won't kill you.

Thanks for opportunity to learn something. You natives no doubt already know this and more.

According to what I read, there are only two snakes in Chile. The long tailed and the short tailed. The long tailed is not found south of Valdivia. The short tailed is found as far south as Chiloe. It eats amphibians and rodents. The bite is poisonous and painful but not known to be fatal. Bites are rare, so there is not a lot of data.

yea just talked to a friend of ours that is an attorney for SAG.
it is a protected species

we either got to turn it over to sag or let it go. i just grabed it because my dogs would have killed it, i and wanted to show it to the kids. it was pointed towards the big cornfield next door. i am going to take it across the l road and send it safly send it on its way as soon as the sun goes down.

interesting visitor, considering that is the first snake i have seen in southern chile. kids have seen it. time to send the vecino on its way.

without context, it looks like an anaconda.

funny. our friend that works for SAG said, "please, for your own safty, let the snake go".

she was not worried about the snake biting us. she was worried about the beurocracy biting us.

Interesting, a long tailed one was killed in El Quisco and made the news just last week:

Denuncian que vecinos mataron a una culebra de cola larga en un confuso incidente en El Quisco

Maybe another weird earth change is happening forcing the snakes to become more active near populated areas :alien:

that is super sad. this snake never at any moment showd any agression even in my hands. i have had garden snakes in the states exhibit more agression when caught.

the only time he got excited was when i put some dirt in his plastic cage. after that, totally passive until i let him / her go.
