Bringing cat to Chile via LAN Airlines

Post by burgler099 » Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:27 am

Hey everyone, I'll be bringing my cat with me to Chile pretty soon. I'll be flying with him on LAN so of course he is not allowed in cabin. Just wondering if anyone has done this before. I'm a little bit nervous, but I do have to bring him along with me. Does anyone have any stories about flying with pets/cats on LAN?

I will be flying MIA-LIM-SCL

Wouldn't it be better (for the cat) to take a non-stop direct flight MIA-SCL?
Generally, just a SPAM KILLER. You are on your own in this forum. My personal mission here is done.

Please let us know how this works out. I have three cats of my own and I am not going to move to Chile unless I can safely take them with me.

Bringing cats in here is similar to dogs- they both need their paper work verifying they are pest free and healthy I have an older blog account on the topic but for the most part the info is still up to date - scroll down to the section In and out of Chile (as of 2012)

Opps..in case my previous post is oked... there has of course been an administration change so now all the links have been changed- The animals remain in their kennels until picked up by the owner. And at that they remain in their kennels until they have cleared customs. http://www.sag.cl/ambitos-de-accion/mascotas & http://www.chileatiende.cl/fichas/ver/2602 Of course this is in Spanish, but a quick copy and paste into a translator app should help out

If you plan your routes correctly, cats can go in the cabin!

Just flew LAN Montevideo to Uruguay with my cat.

They told me no LAN flights allowed animals in cabin.

Other that that the flight went well and Lan were helpful.

SAG in Santiago reviewed the cats papers from Uruguay very carefully, but as we had gone to enormous trouble and expense to find out and satisfy the rules, they couldnt find any problem.

The cat then flew on to Vancouver with air canada a week later in the cabin.

Again, no problems.

If you can get a doctor's note referring to stress experienced during travel I think you can get a pet on a LAN flight, even if it's not a trained guide animal.

Of course, this depends on your level of stress experienced during travel or your willingness to fib a little.

I haven't actually done this myself, but my doctor offered to write me a "prescription" of my dog once.

LAN website seems to limit this offer to dogs.

I guess they figure What kind of emotional assistance is a cat going to give you?
SAG was kind of surprised the trouble we were going to to get our cat to Canada.
