The Great Pumpkin

Post by momof3 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 2:58 pm

So I have been hanging out with Linus, waiting patiently for the Great Pumpkin to appear in the stores. I have some carving and baking to do people. Send out a flare or some smoke signals when they show up at the stores. If they do...

Look for them in the Fall not the Spring.

I bought them at Lider last year in October as part of their Halloween display. Was that sheer luck?

I bought a few pumpkins last year at Jumbo Bilbao but havent seen any yet. I figure they should be appearing in the next week or two.

Last year was the first time I saw lots of imported pumpkins in the store in October (Santa Isabel for sure, not sure about Jumbo/Unimarc but I know I saw them in two different stores), right around Halloween. Whether or not they reappear this year will probably depend on how they sold last year....if I see them I will be sure to post, they are not out yet though.

Lider in Concepcion had pumpkins last year, yes the real McCoy. I´m not sure about this year. We´ve finally been graced with Jumbo, so I can avoid the mass crush of crowds at Lider.

Hey admin. In a bunch of the Líder Express'es in Santiago in the International section they sell packages of pumpkin seeds (already salted). Last year Jumbo/Líders actually had pumpkins (not squashes). I was able to carve a few and pull out and roast the seeds and make a yummy pumpkin bread. Would love to do it again this year - hopefully they will import some!

I like to eat the seeds, but I would be more interested in growing them (if they will grow).

I have some seeds I never got around to putting in the oven. Problem is I'm not sure they're pumpkin. They may be butternut...
