Did you know how many tomatoes one had to consume, some years ago, landing in Darwin (Aus), for they are indeed very strict there about food.. very nice Indonesian tomatoes.. but they were not shared, as the someone was not in a hurry.. absolutely.. he ate them all.. one-by-one.

Happy Full Moon, BTW.

Even as a lapsed vegetarian I can empathize with your poor peperoni story, though I do wonder how a harmless wanna-be chile mutated into a sausage as it crossed the Atlantic... :?

In any case... you were simply randomly unlucky, sometimes lightning does strike, and sometimes those close to us get peperoni or whatever happened to be going that day. I've been through SCL with cheese (aged Dutch Gouda), marrowfat peas (an essential ingredient of Christmas dinner as even a miserable SAG agent should know...) and shampoo... the shampoo evidently looked like honey in the xray machine, the peas were what they were and got confiscated, and the Gouda survived to age another day.

Maybe you should have some distraction and diversion ready...? depending on the location, maybe on the Peru-Chile border a bag of harina tostada is the appropriate diversionary tactic?

Pastuerization and UHT are to very different things, milk should be pastuerized. UHT makes it so you don't need to keep it cool and you can hold it for 6 months, this is for ease of supply.

Please let me know where I can find a good fromagerie, with a decent variety of quality cheese. Never found anything decent, but probably I just haven't looked hard enough.

Its not the milk that´s the problem, its the amount of fat that Bresler, Nestle etc. put in to bulk out their products that make it nasty.

Grana Padano is always available in Unimarc, so is Gorgonzola, St Agur and others. You can get most of those at Jumbo too, by the way.
