Well, I guess that is a step in the right direction. A dog no one wanted a little while ago, now has people being overly possessive of it. If we could just do that for all the rest of the dogs in Chile.

Interesting related story I was told at a dinner party a few days ago. A friend of mine that lives in a condomium near us has a pair of purebred labs she moved to Chile with, and they go everywhere with her. She treats them like her kids.

The caretaker in the place, said to her the other day, "until I seen you with your dogs, I never really liked my dog or even thought much about him".

Now his dog that use to sleep outside in a dog house, sleeps at the foot of his bed.

Another instance, just after I acquired my own abandoned mix. I was walking down the street one day with my puppy. I came across a boy about 9 years old that also had a young mix breed puppy that was only about 2 months old. The kid came up to me and asked me what breed my dog was. I told him he was a pure bred Frutillar street dog just like his. His chest puffed out. I could see the kid was feeling a bit ashamed about having a mutt, but obviously really loved his puppy. Before I stopped to talk to him, I had been walking down the street correcting my puppy (about 3 months old at that point) on the leash. As I walked away, I seen him correcting his puppy.

so, you can change attitudes by example.

I have some happy news to report. Tomorrow Gandalf goes to his new home. He will be going to live with a former neighbor of ours and and her adult daughter who lives with her. They have been involved from the beginning, donating a significant amount towards his care and visiting him at the clinic. I am very happy he will be going to a permanent home, still, it is a bit sad for me to know I can't just pop over to the clinic to see him.

Again, thanks to everyone that has been involved in helping him out, either by donations, getting the word out or visiting him. My friend and I are amazed at the response and we couldn't have done this without the help we have received.
