Yea that is my cat. I knew she was running out of mice around our house, but never thought she was going that far afield for her midnight snacks.

Small world for Hanta. I'm headed to Chile in June from Bozeman, MT. Only yesterday a local woman here died from the Hanta virus. I guess deer mice are well traveled.

Yea, I did some research a while back on cat to human transmission, as my cat was killing two mice a day at one point. Seems in a study in the uk, something like 80 percent of cats had tested positive for hanta anibodies, but that there had never been a documented case of a cat dying from hanta or transmitting it to humans.

Even though I now live in an environment that is high risk, it is still fairly low on the list of things that keep me up at night. Just above my neighbors cows stampeding through my living room, below being struck by lighting. I will take the risk of exposure to hanta over the exposure to the smog and traffic in santiago any day.

By the way, how do I acquire a pet puma?

You mean something like this? I kinda look like that already, minus all the fur, of course.
Are pumas common throughout Patagonia? I'd like to eventually have some goats, but not as puma-feed.

Yeah, I knew about the foxes. I took this guy's picture as he paced us in the car for about a half a mile along a road outside of Villa O'Higgins. Never heard about the pumas, though. Doesn't that make you a little leery, knowing your neighbor's father was eaten? Do they eat dogs as well? Or can the dogs handle them?
I saw a number of goats wandering about loose around La Junta; seemingly unattended.

Glorietta, I am frankly surprised. What with the wisdom that came with your many years.
