Good online Chile english news source?

Anything at all (keep it clean) goes here that does not fit in to any of the other forums.

Good online Chile english news source?

Post by Brent » Mon Nov 26, 2012 1:48 pm

What are some good english language newspapers, or Chile business/living news sources out there?

Anything that would be considered "Independent"?

You have Santiago times and you have I love Chile, and you have this site. Both of the online magazines are independent as far as I know, but also have their own editorial bias one way or other.

I have spoken / met with both of the owners at one time or another.

Really, Chile can't support much more than that. It is simply too small an expat / English language community. Google news will pick up the occasional English language article.

I started down that path years ago (doing full out reporting), with various regional sites we own (e.g. allsouthernchile.com, and so on). Decided I was not all that interested, and the market was super micro small to try and run an advertising based biz off of. The Chilean's will drive you nuts trying to get a peso out of them for advertising, and then drive you even more nuts with the execution if they do. Thus, why I don't accept advertisers beyond the Google advertising on this forum. Keep my life simple.

Then you got the whole keeping a very small expat community happy with what you say, or don't say. For example, half of the expat community thinks ilovechile is too close to the U.S. embassy, and the other half thinks santiago times is too far from it. They have that problem every time they publish something.

Not like I don't have those problems anyway, but you get the point. I just have the luxury of not caring about it based on our biz model, at least to the extent I don't have to worry about loosing advertisers. Perhaps loosing clients, but not advertisers.

That makes Allchile the independent option.
We agree to disagree.
