Aduanas - Customs at Airport, can you bring in a natural wood item if it has been sealed and laminated?

What SAG decides to flip out about something it depends on the SAG agent, and if they have had their lunch or not.
We brought in a container of household goods one time for a client.
Among other things was a large collection of 15th century Colombian paintings in their original wood frames (should have been flagged for cultural export restrictions alone).
In the same container, was a riding lawn mower (also about 15th century vintage), that looked like it had cut the yard, and driven directly in to the container with all sorts of grass and seeds stuck to it. It had not even been brushed off.
They did not care about either.
Another container, for another client, they found a jar of peanut butter in a dresser. SAG flipped out about it. Client had to drive all the way to the port (from the Patagonia) to witness the destruction of the jar of peanut butter. It was costing hundreds of dollars a day to hold the container at the port.

Might help to avoid confusion when speaking with an agent, if you refer to it as varnished instead of laminated. Laminated wood generally means glued layers - like plywood or veneer.

Quality info, thanks.nomad747 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:04 pmThe airport scanner does identify organic material with the colour orange....so if its shape looks like a plant or a stick to the person viewing it on the screen, its probable they will inspect further...if inorganic material is piled on top, which produces a blue colour, the scanner will show a "greenish" colour and its left to the discretion of the inspector whether or not to look at it closer. In a technical sense, the packaging (whether organic or inorganic) is irrelevant to the machine producing the results.
Que será, será.

Are there travel cases designed for fishing rods?

There are travel cases for fishing rods. Another good option is a snowboard bag - shorter than a ski bag, with plenty of extra room to pack clothes.etc. However some airlines charge an extra fee for the snowboard bag.

I thought that if the walking stick were shoved in with a bunch of wood-handled fishing rods perhaps the walking stick would go unnoticed.
