I view Chile as two distinct countries. Santiago/Valpraiso/Vina, and the rest of Chile. I prefer the latter. Sorry brother. I don't envy the part of the country where you live. Hopefully you're situation is one where you can leave it behind fairly easily. It's only going to get worse.

This past night a very brief cacerolazo near my building, like 15 minutes. I see no reports in the news regarding this night.

Two of the twitter feeds I now rely on because the news just ain't reported nowadays did document last night's incidents in Santiago (especially Villa Francia) to Melipilla (barricades and a Haitian was shot) to Valpo.

Printed out my 2nd/last for the week permiso to "go to Lider" but making two non-applicable stops at Starken and Chilexpress. Almost had a heart attack :o when I rounded a large van blocking the front of Starken to see a flashing light Carabinero vehicle and the paco revising the papers of the two people in line (there is usually a long line for this office). My flight instinct instantly changed my original plan and I continued walking past like it was never my intention to go there :P . Headed to Chilexpress, took care of business and then backtracked to Starken to complete the initial part of the mission 8) . Perhaps it is true what I read on a Chile vendor WhatsApp group that Wednesdays are worse than usual for checks and crackdowns due to Monday's disorder followed by Tuesday's complaints...

This past Saturday, I would say, was a record number of checkpoints (army / navy / carabineros), I was checked twice during my 1 hour long trip to the feria.

"...The Chilean Army began the process - via public tender - to buy 130 12-gauge riot shotguns...

...the Logistics Directorate of the military branch intends to spend up to just over 47 million pesos to acquire the weapons...

...According to the requirements presented by the Army, shotguns must be new and unused. Likewise, those with a capacity greater than seven shots, a synthetic stock and a transport strap will be favored.

In addition, a minimum warranty of six months is required.

The closing of the process is the 21 of this month. One day later, the offers will be opened..."

I get this odd feeling everyone is tired of the pandemic, and now we all wish for the good old days of the just the social crisis. Even the Pinera administration is kind of sounding nostalgic for dealing with those ho hum social issues.

Unfortunately, the bug gets a vote too.

So, I think we are slowly creeping towards social crisis mixed with pandemic.

Personally, I miss the earthquakes and volcanoes.
