Post by GringoVikingo » Fri Jan 24, 2020 1:07 pm

This new Virus seams a bit Ugly?
A city in China with 11 million people are sealed, and lot of smaler as well.
It spread to Thailand
And 2 confirmed cases in USA.

I see pic of people just drop dead!

Here is a interactive map of whats going on in the world:

Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.

The rumors trickling out of China even if partially correct sound terrifying.

And Valpo just announced yesterday they will NOT be taking any measures against it:

But San Antonio will:

ahhhh, I think this is a none-event, but we will see about a week from now to this as the new year is just getting started in China.

the quarantine is more a publicity stunt, as the containment ship has already sailed. incubation seems to be about seven days. so by the time the holiday travel season is over, we should know how bad this really is.

still, this is hardly the spanish flue.

Until it mutates again and again, we are due for a similar sized epidemic...

FYI, I highly recommend watching some of the documentaries on the spanish flue on youtube. they are a fascinating piece of history that is often overlooked or downplayed, that probably determined world history for the next 100 years, even to this day.

yea, i am not buying the report from the chinese that it originated in snakes. that is a very big evolutionary jump for a virus. other experts are pointing at bats.

I was wondering how long before we were talking about this. CNN Chile reported a case of Wuhan virus in Columbia and Brazil. Couldnt tell if it was suspicion or confirmed.

The incubation period has been reported to be between 7-21 days...really bad for letting it spread all around before being detected.

Just saw a news article saying that certain HIV meds that inhibit proteaze or something along those lines is proving effective at slowing down or possibly curing it though

Apparently Bat soup (with a whole bat in the soup, wings and head and all) is relatively popular even in semi-nice restaurants there. There are pictures of this soup out there, but its pretty gross, fair warning. <barf>

here is a tracking map of confirmed cases:

https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps ... 7b48e9ecf6

however i take this with a grain of salt as the reports out of china is they long ago ran out of test kits, and they do not officially report cases until tested. there was a nurse in wuhan, that said it took her three days to get a test at her own hospital.

one thing that strikes me as odd, how few confirmed cases we have out of Europe considering how many Chinese tourist there are in Europe.

when i was there a couple of years ago, you could not turn around at any tourist site without running in to a pack of Chinese tourist. Russia had a particular high number of chinese, due to easier visa regulations for chinese.

yea, thos article in the south china morning post, is painting a very different picture of the story being told by bejing and the western media in general.

https://amp.scmp.com/news/china/society ... us-chinese

1. the first cases occurred as early as December 1st, not December 31st as china has said.

2. the first cases had no contact with the seafood market, indicating human to human transmission and possibly airborne transmision.

3. the death rate among that first cluster, appears to be as high as 15%. Put that in perspective, the Spanish flu was estimated to be around 10%, and killed 20 to 40 million people world wide. If that is true, this makes for a very scary bug.

years ago though I seen an historical computer epidemiology study that showed that majority of new outbreaks, start in china or asia, work their way around the globe, then tend to burnout in south America.
