more money there? no prison industry ready to gobble them up forever like in the US? don't need winter clothes like in Canada? maybe fewer surveillance cameras? or maybe just a little fake news to tweak our realities to the agenda of that corporate media?

Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Tim Court, who is heading the nationwide response, said: “We put the message out to immigration and border force.
“The big question was ‘where is this stuff going?’ We intercepted a series of boxes going back to Chile. Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.”
This is fromthe Sun. Rags like the SUn and the Daily Mail when they are putting things in direct quotation marks from people, are not usually making it up.
If you do want to read such sources, be very careful of the content in general, but focus on what the sources are and what's in quotation marks. If it's an official quote, at least that part of the article is usually legit.

Thieves flown into UK from Chile for burglaries
That's from the
BBC
Interesting to see that they ship the loot back to Chile. My theory is that even the well-off here have no problems with buying obviously stolen luxury goods.
I think the reason that theft is so widespread here is because there is a ready market for stolen goods. Many people, even quite educated ones who ought to know better turn a blind eye to the origin of items acquired informally.
