Toyota Yaris good choice. Tons of them around and good reputation. Kias are not real solid construction. I have had good (albeit short) experiences with Chevy Sparks as rental cars in Chile.

With Yaris sedan I'm wondering if it might be difficult to sell afterwards given they're mostly used for taxis here. Maybe a Yaris hatch or Corolla.

VW Polo from Argentina might have a problem retaining value, too.

The yaris is probably one of the most common cars in the country. So all around parts are easily found, lots on the roads that are old and still going, not a lot of frills to them so not much to break.

American cars are crap. America hasnt built a good car in 30 or 40 years.

Gm ones have been sold in latin america with the safty features stripped out earning zero star safty ratings, and i suspect they are using lower quality material in their construction. GM will drop after market warrenties, and their dealers have been known to just close shop over night, and take the clients money. Gm corporate just told the customers too bad.

It's a good car, fits a tall driver, fast touch screen, drives nice with a 115 hp engine and AT6 on 15 inch wheels, 6.7 liters per 100 km real fuel consumption in city.

A bit noisy, the AT is jerky in slow traffic and the LED low beam doesn't go out as much as you'd want.

I'd be concerned about availability of spare parts in case something breaks down. Waiting 5 weeks till some part gets here from Europe is not fun. Also, the availability of service centers outside of Santiago - dealers are expensive while the one and only independent VW mechanic here in Vina has a weird vibe.

This topic should be called....."How many men does it takes to screw a light bulb?"
Hey Gloria-san, tell your experience to "mem" in owning your Yaris hatchback over the years. I know you had to buy a door mounted mirror but have you being spending much for its upkeep beside that mirror replacement? Last time me taking a ride in the front seat along with Dwayne at the helm, that Toyo engine revved so smooth and hardly discernible of unwanted noise. Your hubby didn't even notice that he's being running in 3rd gears all along out of 4 gears, that quiet the Toyo motor runs.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, went sking at valle nevado on saturday and their was a porsche cayenne suv in the ditch just down the road from the resort. Based on the amount of snow on the hood, it looked abandonded for a few days.

Then also if my car went in the ditch on the way to the ski resort, i would grab my skis and leave the car for another day too.

It was gone on the way back. Perhaps the snow plow pushed it over the edge of the cliff.
