OK - had a quick look about UK selling weapons. The UK is the no 2 weapons exporter after the US.
In case anybody is interested on the global arms trade, I just happened to hear the replay of an interview with by Andrew Feinstein, the author of "The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade". In the interview he mentioned 'BAE Systems', a UK company. And BAE Systems is in the news today:

British defence giant BAE Systems has won a multi-billion pound contract from the Australian government to build nine new warships, marking a significant victory for British military exports.

Andrew Feinstein exposes "the shadow world" of global arms

Arms — and the commissions offered by their manufacturers — are big business in a world that spends 1.7 trillion dollars a year on defence and national security.

And a Chilean link in story:
In September 2005 The Guardian reported that banking records showed that BAE Systems paid £1 million to Augusto Pinochet, the former Chilean dictator. The Guardian has also reported that "clandestine arms deals" have been under investigation in Chile and the UK since 2003 and that British Aerospace and BAE Systems made a number of payments to Pinochet advisers.

I wish it was only a matter of corruption.
A Chilean court on Tuesday convicted nine former soldiers for the 1973 murder of Chile's most famous folk singer, Victor Jara.

The then 40-year-old Jara was arrested on September 12, 1973 — one day after the military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet against the government of President Salvador Allende, elected in 1970.

His body was found some days later with 44 machine gun bullet holes in it, and his hands broken by rifle butts and boots.
