Post by horselover1830 » Fri Feb 21, 2014 10:41 pm

Has there been any news on the visa waiver for Chileans? Of course there hasn't because I'd have heard something - just wishing for a miracle - anyone ? thoughts ?

There was a thing in El Mercurio today (page C4) saying it was getting closer and expected in the first semester of 2014.

Dear DB-san,
What is a 1st semester of 14?
In Japan, the semester schedule is as follows: But it is academic calendar. So having comprehension difficulty in analyzing ( understanding) your post.. Hmmm?

The academic year at a Japanese school normally begins in April and ends the following March.

First half of the year. In Spanish semestre is not limited to academia. Didn't know it was in English.

Let me put it simply for you. It is hoped that the visa waiver program may be in place at some time in the first 6 months of 2014.

visa waiver program .... Why in hell will uncle sam implement such measure? If visa weaver then anyone can pose as tourist and come and stay put, in the paradise US o A ! When Homeland Security agents now days very busy trying to
negate or give easy entry into the US.

I have seen in the "filas" at the US inmmigration visitors entry checking booth
taking finger prints and pics, then separated the ones OK to get waved in and others being escorted to an undisclosed room?...

Hmmm ? what have those tourists have done ? Later at the luggage carrousel, I spotted a person that was escorted to a room so I asked what happened to you two ? They said, does not know but their passports being checked and re-checked then summoned to an interrogation room and asked many disparate questions and after told to go..

They asked for explanation of their inquiry but told if they keep asking more questions may be deported! WTF !
And all these security/screening but want to implement the "visa weaver program" ??

Because the
business relations between the US and Chile have been moving forward it is a gesture of goodwill by the US to invite Chile to be on the list of many other countries who do not require a visa.

When fewer than 3% of visas are rejected by the local US consulate, a country can apply to enter the visa waiver program. It isn't a given.
