Hurrah!!! Hopefully, this will derail the TPP...or at least result in a major overhaul of the Investor-State-Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provision.

Yea, this is the big multi-national companies looking to get rid of their biggest thorn in their side, sovereignty. If they don't do it with this one big package, they will do it in a drip, drip fashion, one little amendment added on to an irrelevant bill at a time; and, not just in the U.S.

The problem with the TPP, was it was all too much at one time, especially after sites like wikileaks dumpped the top secret beans. Giving obama trade authority, to enter treaties, that are secret, would have been a slam dunk without the public disclosures. Caught congress and the president, with their hands in the cookie jar, and now they are all trying to cover themselves.

It managed to accomplish one thing. It got all members on the forum, from all parts of the political economic spectrum, to agree on something.

The article also said that TPP faces bipartisan opposition in Congress; let's all hope they're as united as everyone here, (on this matter) and shoot it down.

I bet O'bomber will find a way to subvert the already-corrupted "democratic" process to put it into force, regardless of what people or Congress wants.
He has already proven to be a master at doing so.

an economist on the BBC said the same exact thing I did when this started, there is nothing in it for Chile because Chile already had free trade agreements with most of the countries including the U.S.; meanwhile, this introduces massive controls on intellectual property (so far from the leaks, generic drugs, software, books, GMO crap, ) and bunch of other things that as yet to see the light of day.

The other shoe to drop is, that while bachelet and company have been pushing this new union labor law through congress (which is stupid smoldering pile of half-thought out crap itself), she is off joining the TPP which is suppose to have a bunch of stuff to negate the new union laws or at least protect foreign companies from being subject to them. The one, from the leaks, that is the new labor law forces all workers in shop to join a union, while the TPP forces freedom of association. Hell, that might be the only thing of any use in the TPP.

Again, still working on rumors, because THE DAM THING SECRET. That alone is sufficient motive to reject it outright, no matter what is in it.
