So it begins...Refugee estadounidenses en Chile

An American family trying to escape the USA was rescued near Hawaii by a cargo ship which will arrive today in San Antonio.

The article states they have three possible options: religious asylum, a tourist visa, or stay on the ship and continue somewhere else.

Believe it or Not!

UPDATE

The cargo ship Forest Venus is currently waiting its turn to come into the port of San Antonio (probably Wednesday).

The family is from Arizona and will apply for religious asylum when they meet PDI and provincial authorities.

we were recently looking at the immigration stats for last year.

over 1/3 of all residency visas for us citizens, and only us citizens, was religious visas last year. can not recall the exact number but out of something like 3000 visas for us citizens, over a 1000 were religious visas.

the problem with those types are, most have no money or they would be applying for another type of visa. could care less that they are here for religious reasons (and i have my doubts about how many really are), but it means most in one wsy or another are expecting chile to support them or their family or are acteully intent on sending money the other dirrection to some relgious organization in the states.

........ Getting a religious visa and seeking asylum on religious grounds are two very different things....... Doesn't the US constitution guarantee religious freedom....... If so on what grounds would you seek asylum....... Well thr polygamous Mormon offshoots might try, their leader is in jail for child abuse, we have a colony in Canada that is slowly being shutdown.....

I wonder why the national Chilean press has not picked up on this story? Does stuff like this happen more frequently than we hear?

Just a piece of paper and even more so as each week goes by.

What religion is this family exactly? I've met my share of religious crazies in the US before... if they're seeking religious asylum, I have to assume that they actually mean "baby-and-puppy-slaying cult" rather than religion...
