Acreencia Bancaria

Something different from the current interminable BS:

If you have ever stashed money in a Deposito a Plazo Fijo, then forgot about it for one reason or another, be aware that after two years of inactivity, its considered dead, and placed on a list maintained by the SBIF and periodically published in the Diario Oficial.
They won't inform you that this has happened.
After 3 years on the list of Acreecias Bancarias, the money is transferred to the state, you lose it!

There are individuals who scan the Diario Oficial and may notify you of the situation. They, of course expect a "comission" for doing so, fair enough IMO if the deposit would otherwise have been be lost. But you can DIY with various online resources. For the non-Google literates: ... -bancarias

Having found where the deposit ended up, you then have to go and pester the bank. As usual, in a situation where they are not making money from you, they will be uninterested and may need to be repeatedly pushed into action. It may take several months to recover the money. That was my experience anyway. (With BCI, ymmv)

The reason for publishing is that its just happened to a family friend - as it happened to us several years ago.

Just another "pero"...even the banks need watching.
Bienvenidos a Chaqueteo City.

Après moi, le déluge
