I was thinking about moving 20-30% of saving to CLP but maybe over a half would be more reasonable.

The US feels like a herd of black swans nowadays.

Yeah for anyone living here long term, I think the majority in local CLP or local anything is a good bet. If one must hold USD in savings at least keep USD in country.

This hurricane Irma doesn't look good...

If a herd of swans descends on the US, will be staying here anyway...just need to keep a little USD up there to pay ongoing US based bills as long as the status quo is what it is.

Holy mother of...

I stopped checking the rates for 2 weeks while handling some contracts and then the exchange rate imploded, lol. Going to order a large transfer right now to withdraw and have at home or a Chilean bank as cash. It has been going downwards for some time, but 5% in a month (since I last checked in detail) is quite ridiculous.

Jp moron recommened selling chilean stocks and buying brazil.

Perhaps.

But the whole chile bet right now is:

Copper recovery

Pro-biz administration

Drop in the dollar

Chile holds sub-3% interst rates while the u.s. raises.

Selling chile stocks right now seem way early, when everythung says the best is yet to come. Even our comi and chief, bachelet is saying growth next year will not depend on who is president. I have to agree with her. Lefty president gets 2% anc righty gets north of 4%, regardless if they like it or not. After that is anyone's guess, but prety much growth is locked in untill they do something to screw it up.

Sorry, but brazil, as much as like visiting, will never be as risk nuetral as chile.

One has to be incredibly stupid to recommend investing in Brazil right now: the moment passed, it was 3 months ago, when stocks were low. Now that most Brazilian stocks have gained roughly 25% value, it is time to sell. Only someone naive will buy stocks that are rising due to sheer speculation.

Going to open a new thread later today to give a panorama about current Brazilian economy and politics (AKA. Brazil 101) to avoid deviating too much from this topic's point of discussion.

Looks like the dollar may strengthen against the peso soon.

Small reversal in USD/CLP as of today, almost 625. Sigh, and I remember feeling sad when it was kissing 650 on the way down...wah wah wahhhhh, but at least it didn't hit the 500's, hope this upward trend continues

As long as it doesn't increase inflation rates in the short term, higher is better for me. I would really like if it hit 700.

tiago-san, 700 ? Bwahahaha in your dreams. Every intl currency almost gaining against the mighty green backs. JPY when it was 222~225 against Dollar, I bought a bunch, now just watching iphone Ten as X going for more than US$1000.00 !?
JPY is so strong at 108 per Dollar. When I go back to Tokyo at the end of year, those Yen purchased when Dollar was at the helm will come very handsome for my spending there.. But as always, what is at the bottom will rise to the top, and hoping soon in the case of CLP...Amen.
