This actually happened two days ago and at this moment sits below it on xe.com.

I got ripped off by 1% on Cirrus CapitalOne and Cirrus BankDirect for withdrawing on that volatile day.

Just looked, now below 594 dropping as the commodity complex on this crazy Friday is coming on strong. Copper at 3.06 when it was scraping below 3.00 two days ago.

More interesting is next Friday (the rumored beginning of the unraveling of paper gold?). FIrst notice day December COMEX Gold.

Thats what I love about technology
and this forum. Sitting in my truck on a beautiful sunny day in the south overlooking my cows and a spectacular view of the vocanoes wondering why the dollar had dropped 6 pesos this morning according to the xe app. Came here and now I know. Cheers.

dam it. I have to sit in my office, look at the (same) volcano, and wonder why the peso has dropped. I think I'll take my laptop to the bar, look at the volcano, and wonder why the peso has dropped with a cold beer.

obviously, we all care very deeply about what is going on in the rest of the World   .

kind of funny. Right after I posted the above, I went out the front door of my office to get something out of the car, and there was a box left at the front door. It was box for wine glasses, but with a piece of tape on it. I picked it up, but it felt too heavy to be wine glasses. Opened it up. There was 12 Chester beers from Puerto Varas, stouts (my favorite beer in the country, or at least top 5). So, never had to go to the bar for a beer.

Took some detective work to figure out where they came from, after drinking a few. Turned out a friend in town, that also likes chester beer, had bought too many and these were peaking (micro-brews), and had left me some in hopes I would help him out before they went bad. No problem. Got it covered.

What does this have to do with the exchange rate? Well, when those beers were brewed, it was 550 pesos to the dollar. By the time they were at their peek, they were 600 pesos to the dollar. More importantly it was the rainy season when they were brewed, and today was nice and sunny.

You do the math. A guineas cost what, in Ireland, $4 to 6 euros? These cost me nothing but the time to drink them on a nice sunny afternoon.

Somehow I came out ahead in that exchange rate.

Real economics.

Glad you enjoyed the stout! But this is what happens when there is no sunshine to enjoy:

Tim: "There was an accident down at the Guinness brewery."
"Oh, God no! cries Brenda. "Please don't tell me..."
"I must Brenda. Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I'm sorry."
Finally, she looked up at Tim. "How did it happen, Tim?"
"It was terrible, Brenda. He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout and drowned."
Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me true, Tim. Did he at least go quickly?'
"Well, no Brenda...no."

"No?"
"Fact is, he got out three times to pee."

Now at almost 608. All the economic indicators point to a further weakening of CLP over the next few months. :|
