Have you tried Cuenta FAN banco de chile? They sent some promotion emails, which claim that one can use this account for online shopping.

Yes, I've posted about it here a few months back. Cuenta FAN only accepts permanent residents, regardless of what they claim on their website. Also, they don't accept expired cedulas, even though my cedula had its expiration date extended by the government due to COVID.

Has anyone out there tried the combination of opening an account at Scotia bank and depositing to it from a U.S. account via Transferwise? My objective is to set up automatic monthly payment to FONASA, so that I don't have to walk into the Scotia bank branch location and pay in cash. (I'm about 90% through the process for permanent residency)

I thought they terminated cash/presencial payments of FONASA? Go to Previred.cl and set yourself up to pay FONASA online. At the beginning of each month, enter the site and initiate your payment, then go to your online access of the bank you set to pay FONASA. For BE, it is Pagos>Oitros Pagos>Aceptar
Que será, será.

Thanks, that looks like it should work: once I've opened a bank account. At the local Scotia branch, the rep said "no problem"--after I'm granted permanent residency. When I make my next payment, I'll ask the rep about transferring money in from the U.S.
